Job Title:Researcher 1Department:FAES | Horticulture and Crop Science

Conduct research to address known challenges in row crop agricultural production. Duties will include: establishing field, lab/growth chamber, and greenhouse research trials, conducting data collection in field trials using instrumentation, overseeing sample processing and data entry, conducting lab germination assays on seeds, installing and downloading data from weather sensors, assisting with grant writing and funding opportunities, assisting with writing and presenting research results in scholarly journals and professional meetings. Planned trial focus crops include corn, soybean, weed species, and pennycress. The successful candidate will be involved in training of undergraduate and graduate students in field and lab procedures and overseeing daily activities. The candidate will also assist in the development of extension materials for publication as appropriate.

Additional Information:

Degree requirements: A BS in agronomy, seed science, plant physiology, soil fertility, or other applied plant/agronomic subject field.

Experience: 2-3 years of relevant work experience beyond the BS degree is desired (can include graduate school training).

Experience working with a wide variety of row crops is preferred. Previous experience working with sensors and lab germination chambers is preferred. Excellent organizational and quantitative skills, demonstrated writing proficiency, and expertise in the following fields: seed science, agronomy, crop science, as well as in generating extension-related materials.

The salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
