Job Info

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The laboratory of Dr. Anthony Rosenzweig at MGH is seeking a full-time Research Technician to perform:

(1) Basic molecular biology, (2) Cell culture methods, and (3) Small animal work.

The lab studies the pathophysiology of heart disease with a growing focus on crosstalk between heart and brain. Our investigations focus on fundamental cellular processes such as cell growth, survival and regeneration, as well as on the identification and validation of new therapeutic targets. Effects of genetic, pharmacological, and physiological (e.g., exercise) interventions are explored using high throughput profiling and screening techniques as well as mechanistic studies in mouse and cell culture models. Several promising therapeutic targets have come out of our work, including intracellular and intercellular signaling proteins and non-coding RNAs. The selected candidate will join a group of talented and motivated basic and clinician scientists whose work has direct translational applications.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lab duties will include:

(1) Rodent work (genotyping, pharmacological, and behavioral measurements etc.);

(2) Molecular biology/biochemical techniques (e.g., qPCR and Western blot, DNA subcloning, CRISPR-based genome editing, immunohistochemistry, histology, and enzyme assays, as well as data collection and analysis).

(3) As s/he gains more familiarity with the projects, s/he will take on responsibility for short- and long-term planning of experiments and will be expected to present data at lab meetings and research conferences.

The candidate will be expected to keep her/his work and data collection highly organized, and to help in the joint upkeep of the lab. The candidate will also help orient and supervise more junior members joining the laboratory and to teach basic techniques.

Qualifications
Qualifications - External

(1) Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a basic science discipline.

(2) Successful track record of reliability and collaboration.

(3) Highly motivated to learn about cardiac physiology and neuroscience.

(4) Interested in applying powerful genetic, biochemical, animal models, and high throughput "-omic" strategies.

(5) Eager to read primary literature related to the basic science of cardiac/neurological health and disease.

(6) Some prior laboratory experience is desirable.

(7) Experience with rodent models, cell culture and molecular biology techniques, and familiarity with common computer programs (MS Office, Prism, etc), and biostatistical data analysis methods are preferred but not required.

EEO Statement
