Department Information

We are seeking a highly motivated person to join our team and help us achieve success in answering a host of biochemical questions. The successful candidate will be a key player in managing lab logistics and executing scientific experiments in cell culture-based systems such as bacteria, yeast, and human cells. With a willingness to leverage both existing knowledge and new techniques, this individual will collaborate closely with graduate students under the supervision of Dr. Amber Mosley, PhD.

Job Summary

The selected candidate will work in the lab of Dr. Amber Mosley, PhD and will be considered a scientist from day 1 with his/her own research projects. This position will be an excellent way to gain lab experience for graduate school or professional applications.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Manages the logistics of our laboratory but also execute scientific experiments in cell culture-based systems (bacteria, yeast, human). This person will also have willingness to use their existing knowledge while also learning and leveraging new techniques to aid in their research.
General Responsibilities
  • Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results.
  • Document details and results from experiments (procedures and results) in laboratory notebooks.
  • Provide support for equipment maintenance as needed by working with equipment vendors.
  • Organizes analytical data of performed experiments. May submit findings for publication.
  • Installs and maintains research equipment.
  • Preparing samples for proteomics experiments
  • Act as environmental and safety representative for the laboratory.
  • Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training.
  • Processing and analyzing data from proteomics studies
  • Maintains detailed notes and lab documentation
  • Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management.
  • Trains junior-level staff.
  • Plans experiments and short-term goals.
  • May require travel in order to service various research sites.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in science or related field.
Preferred
  • Master's degree in science or a related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 2 years of related research experience.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University May be required for some areas.

Working Conditions / Demands

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
