Overview

Princeton University's Department of Molecular Biology seeks applicants for a Research Specialist position to join a laboratory studying organ morphogenesis, embryonic patterning, and disease mechanisms in zebrafish. The ideal candidate will possess an organizational mindset to manage aspects of the laboratory including ordering, inventory, and zebrafish strain maintenance. The position will include the opportunity to conduct independent research and require the candidate to assist lab members with their research projects.

Responsibilities

The role of the Research Specialist encompasses qualities of a quick learner and good teacher. This individual will help the team progress and contribute to a positive working environment. Laboratory management duties include, but are not limited to:

    ordering, inventory, preparing solutions and reagents, restocking supplies; helping maintain zebrafish strains;meeting with the principal investigator, attending and presenting in laboratory data meetings, attending relevant seminars; andexperimental research on independent topics and assisting lab members with their projects, such as molecular biology and cloning.


Qualifications

Essential Qualifications
    Bachelor's degree with significant STEM coursework and 1-3 years’ experience working in a laboratory setting.Expertise with molecular biology techniques including DNA cloning, PCR, DNA and RNA preparation. Dependable; meticulous attention to detail; strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work effectively in a team, as well as independently.Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate clearly, both written and verbally.
Preferred Qualifications
    Lab animal research experience, particularly with zebrafish.Experience with genotyping and in situ hybridization.
