General Summary of Position:

We are a highly collaborative group at the Center of Biomedical and Health Research in Data Sciences (CHORDS) at University of Massachusetts, Lowell seeking a research programmer. In this position, you will use neural networks, SQL, Python, R and work with diverse cutting-edge health records data and genomics data.

Our research focuses on using data science and applied machine learning to understand the biology of common diseases like cancer and dementia. The goal is to discover new ways to prevent or treat them through mining health records and genomic data.

This is a great opportunity for someone who may be interested in research but wants to get more experience before possibly going back to school-you have the chance to learn how to lead publications, receive mentorship, and work in a lab environment. You will learn about biomedical applications of machine learning, and collaborate with experts in machine learning.

We're looking for someone who has programming experience including both applying machine learning models, but also understanding a bit of how they work beyond just the engineering part. Therefore, candidates would ideally have some understanding of statistics.

**Given the nature and responsibilities of the position, only U.S. persons (any individual who is a citizen of the United States, a permanent resident alien of the United States, or a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C.1324b(a)(3)) will be considered for this position.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • BS or MS with programming experience including both applying machine learning models, but also understanding a bit of how they work beyond just the engineering part. Therefore, candidates would ideally have some understanding of statistics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience explaining and presenting computational models of scientific data

Special Instructions to Applicants:

Only current UML Employees within the Grants & Contracts (MTA/GRACE) bargaining unit will be considered during the first 10 business days of the posting. All other candidates will be considered after that period.

This is a Grants & Contracts (MTA/GRACE) bargaining unit position, Grade P17.

This position is contingent upon funding.

Please submit a resume and cover letter with your application. Names and contact information of three references will be required during the application process.
