GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Kimberly Laboratory in the Center for Genomic Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, is seeking highly motivated post-doctoral fellow candidates. The Kimberly Laboratory conducts translational research in stroke, including animal modeling and patient-oriented studies. The new hire will be appointed as a Research Fellow at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Harvard Medical School. The project focus of this position is to advance our laboratory's work on a neuroinflammatory signaling cascade after ischemic stroke, the IL-33/ST2 axis. The laboratory has a unique genetic model (soluble ST2 knockout rat strain) to dissect the mechanism of this pathway and its relationship to our patient-oriented findings.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Post-Doctoral Fellow is expected to be a self-motivated team player with excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills. S/he must possess a strong attention to detail, computer skills, and prior training and track record in research. The candidate must have prior experience in rodent animal modeling of stroke with the filament occlusion model.

The Post-Doctoral fellow will be situated in the MGH under the guidance and mentorship of Dr. W. Taylor Kimberly. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prior experience in the filament MCAO surgical technique is a requirement.
  • Experience with techniques including quantitative PCR, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and flow cytometry.
  • Ability to develop or acquire new methods and techniques as appropriate for the scientific project.
  • Participate in and present data at lab meetings and journal clubs.
  • Prepare manuscripts resulting from data generated in research projects.
  • Maintaining and overseeing animal regulatory documentation for research studies.
  • Supervise research technician and/or research coordinator as assigned.
  • Performing other job-related duties as assigned.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

The ideal candidate should have received (or expect to receive soon) a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, or related field.
  • First (or co-first) author of one or more peer-reviewed scientific publications
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work both independently and in a team

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Required: Recent PhD graduate, or MD with more than 2 years of research experience
