Hourly Range:

$18.00 an hour - $21.50 an hour
Job Summary:

The Research Assistant will assist with the research goals, both technical and conceptual. The position's goals are for keeping general laboratory maintenance, and to help with biochemical and histological research assays, animal experiments in the laboratory, and student training.
Essential Functions:

  • Assist with animal handling, surgeries, and behavioral testing.
  • Assist with histological and biochemical assays. Perform imaging of immunohistochemical assays using bright-field and fluorescence microscopy.
  • General laboratory maintenance: maintain all laboratory instruments, glassware, utensils clean and organized. Maintain and update laboratory notebooks and databases. Prepare buffers and solutions for experimental assays.
  • Collect, review and analyze data from histological and biochemical assays.
  • Perform literature searches of all relevant material and supervise undergraduate students.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, or Biomedical Engineering.

A minimum of one year of work experience is required, preferably work experience in animal handling, stereotaxic surgeries, biochemical assays such as Western Blotting / ELISA or immunohistochemistry. Previous training in microscopy is desirable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills with a diverse community of faculty, staff, and students.

Candidate must possess strong organizational, planning and time management's skills with the ability to oversee multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment. Must also possess a strong focus on attention to detail.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to be resourceful, proactive, and seek assistance as needed. Must also possess the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.

Knowledge of how a research lab runs is preferred. The ability to apply scientific reasoning for decision-making is highly desirable. Knowledge of laboratory procedures is a plus.

General knowledge of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, EndNote is required. Experience with or knowledge of Graphpad Prism and/or Photoshop is prefererred.
