Job Description

The Research and Compliance Analyst will assist in the administration of the Enterprise Risk Management Program that includes Corporate Compliance Program, HIPAA Privacy Office, and Research. This position will also manage regulatory compliance issues/concerns and advise the organization on new or revised laws, rules, and regulations.

The Research and Compliance Analyst will consistently demonstrate support of the SRAlab statement of Vision, Mission, and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the SRAlab.

Principal Responsibilities
The Research and Compliance Analyst will:

  • Responsible for understanding, developing, implementing an effective compliance program. Preferred ability to incorporate the Office of Inspector General's seven elements of an effective compliance program related to but not limited to, HIPAA, conflicts of interest, and new or revised laws or regulations, to the Executive Management, Research Staff, Patient Financial Services, Medical Records, and other SRAlab staff. Research and recommend actions to be taken after consulting, as appropriate, with the Office of General Counsel.
  • Assists with the targeted risk assessment process in both compliance and research areas to identify trends and gaps in compliance matters, potential areas of vulnerabilities, critical and emerging risks.
  • Develop and assist in the interpretation of policies and procedures and implementation of new regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, recommend, and conduct audits to test compliance retrospectively and prospectively with established laws, rules, regulations and policies.
  • Investigate and oversee resolution of compliance-related complaints and hotline calls.
  • Develop and lead educational and training programs to help ensure employees, students, medical staff members, researchers, and volunteers have knowledge of, and comply with, pertinent laws, rules, regulations and policies, as applicable.
  • Monitor the healthcare regulatory environment for emerging trends and assist stakeholders in assessing any impact to the SRAlab and commenting to government agencies and other applicable parties.
  • Monitor the implementation of corrective action plans and/or process improvements resulting from internal or external reviews.
  • Assist regulatory submissions and reporting activities to clarify and resolve issues.
  • Develop and/or ensure internal controls are capable of preventing and detecting patterns of illegal, unethical or improper conduct.
  • Assist in managing and expanding the visibility of the Corporate Compliance Program, including but not limited to the HIPAA Privacy Office.
  • Lead or participate in various ad hoc and standing SRAlab and Research committees as assigned by the Chief Integrity Officer.
  • Frequently interact with the Office of General Counsel for assistance in interpretation of regulatory requirements and/or legal advice on issues, concerns and/or risks.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by the Chief Integrity Officer.
  • Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of SRAlab.

Research
The Research and Compliance Analyst will also focus on ensuring compliance with research regulatory requirements. This position will plan, develop, coordinate, communicate, implement, and monitor all functions around research compliance and advise on research compliance matters related to clinical trials, sponsored projects, human research protections, conflict of interest and clinical trial billing.
  • Administer the day-to-day SRAlab Research Compliance Program.
  • Work closely with the Office of Research Administration to provide guidance on regulatory compliance in sponsored projects administration.
  • Provide guidance on regulatory compliance in the conduct and administration of clinical trials.
  • Coordinate research-related conflict of interest matters.
  • Works in collaboration with Chief Integrity Officer and research leaders to develop and implement research compliance education and training programs for all research staff, including without limitation clinical research billing, research misconduct, human research protections, conflict of interest, effort reporting and responsible conduct of research.
  • Serve as SRAlab's Human Protections Administrator (HPA) for SRAlab human research protection program.

Clinical and Non-Clinical Operations
The Research and Compliance Analyst will focus on ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements around clinical and non-clinical operations, including, but not limited to nursing, quality, medical staff, allied health, human resources, billing, medical records, facilities, marketing, physician practice and information systems.
Reporting Relationships
  • Reports directly to the Chief Integrity Officer
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's Degree in a related field of Health Care or other advanced degree or significant compliance experience preferred.
  • Four years' management experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Research
  • 3-5 years research compliance related experience preferred.
  • Experience with or knowledge of conduct and administration of clinical trials and sponsored projects administration preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interface with principal investigators and research staff preferred.
  • Research compliance and Institutional Review Board (IRB) Certification preferred.

Clinical and Non-Clinical Operations
  • 3-5 years of experience in healthcare industry required.
  • Ability to make presentations and address both large and small groups of co-workers regarding compliance education and other research related matters.
  • Ability to research complex, legal, regulatory, and contractual documents for interpretive purposes.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills demonstrating an ability to work collaboratively with different work groups.
  • Exhibits exemplary oral, listening, and written communication skills. This includes the ability to share information in an organized, clear, and timely manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience preferred in conducting or knowledge of hospital and/or physician diagnosis and procedural coding and billing requirements as they relate to Medicare and Medicaid. Experience in interpreting Local Coverage Determinations (LCD) and National Coverage Determinations (NCD). Coding certification preferred.
  • Must possess initiative, the ability to work independently, and strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Skills in conducting and analyzing complex data, evaluating information, and drawing logical conclusions.
  • Project management experience preferred.
