Position Summary:
Under general direction of the Group Leader, performs and assists in the performance of laboratory analyses. Responsibilities include: preparing and analyzing samples for nutrients, heavy metals, and organic substances. Typical sample matrices include plant and animal tissues, waters and soils. Additional responsibilities include maintaining instruments, documenting analytical and quality control results, using laboratory database software, and performing general group and laboratory operations tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Degree or equivalent
  • Collecting and recording data following pre-established procedures or protocols.
  • Using a computer to collect and record data.
  • Accomplishing goals or completion of projects in a team environment.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • B.S. in related field.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in a laboratory environment or closely related field.
  • Experience in quantitative chemical analysis of nutrients, metals, and organic substances (such as vitamins, pesticides, and chlorophyll) in water, soil, and biological tissues.
  • Experience in the operation of laboratory instruments including GC, GCMS, HPLC, FIA, selective electrode and UV-VIS.
  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance/Quality Control and ISO 17025.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Knowledge of scientific principles.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform a variety of specialized tasks and laboratory techniques specific to the needs of the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and resolve basic problems with instruments and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to keep records and compile written information for reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow good safety practices.
  • Possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience training and supervising other workers.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • Carry, lift, or otherwise move heavy materials up to 50 lbs. such as boxes of samples, chemical containers or gas cylinders.
