New York State has a team of staff to support the NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH) and Local Health Departments (LHDs) to perform COVID-19 contact tracing in communities across NYS. The aim of this initiative is to call every person diagnosed with COVID-19, establish all contacts of this person, and proceed to call and maintain ongoing communication with every contact. In addition, the team supports the isolation and quarantine of individuals, as appropriate in cooperation with the LHD. This includes virtual needs checks and referral to community resources as needed.  NYS contact tracing initiative is in tandem with statewide-wide efforts to increase testing, improve communication and knowledge of effective strategies to reduce transmission, and implementation of isolation and quarantine. This will fortify efforts to control the pandemic in NYS.

As a Regional Training Specialist (RTS), you’re responsible for facilitating the first two weeks of the new hire onboarding process to ensure all contact tracing staff and supervisors are properly trained so they can perform their related job responsibilities. You will be responsible for accumulating Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for your region and working with the Program Training Manager (PTM) to address the FAQs. In addition, you will be responsible for working with the PTM to coordinate on training needs at the regional level, develop training materials specific to your region, and ensure all training material for the NY Contact Tracing Initiative remains up to date.

You'll report to the Regional Team Manager and work closely with the PTM as well as the other RTSs across the state.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Act as the key liaison between the VCC Staff and the Program Training Manager to ensure your region has the appropriate training material in place and training materials remain current.
  • Tracking and understanding the various policy and system (CommCare) changes to identify training gaps and coordinate with the PTM and/or NYSDOH as appropriate to ensure staff has training on all current processes
  • Provide training on all necessary systems required for VCC staff to perform job functions, including but not limited to: Microsoft Teams, CommCare, and Amazon Connect
  • Provide training on regional and county specific workflows, in consultation with DOH Regional Support Teams for programmatic appropriateness, and update training materials to reflect any process changes or new instructions to staff as appropriate
  • Facilitate the onboarding process for new hires including creating and updating onboarding guides for new hires.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings and collaborate with RTS across the state to promote best practices and ensure consistent policies and procedures are implemented
  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with the Regional Team Manager to ensure consistent communication, best practices and attention to workflow is conveyed and appropriately disseminated Ensure all employees are trained to perform job functions while facilitating refresher training and making mentoring arrangements as needed.
  • Ensure sharing of and adherence to best practices among peers by applying a consistent approach to training contact tracing staff and supervisors in coordination with the RTM and PTM
  • Hold regular forums for your region to review FAQs and share best practices.
  • Assist with VCC Forum Trainings as regional subject matter expert.
  • Employment is contingent on completion of a background check by NY State.
  • Current NYS residency
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is preferred. Experience in clinical medicine and/or public health a plus.
  • Knowledge of NYS Contract Tracing Initiative processes 
  • Experience working in an educational setting is strongly preferred
  • A flexible, adaptive and composed attitude with the ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Critical thinking and sound judgment required
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Phenomenal work ethic with a positive attitude
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English clearly and concisely. Fluency in a second or multiple languages would be a plus.
  • Own telephone, computer, wireless internet (Wi-Fi) and electronic equipment (A partial reimbursement to maintain unlimited phone and data access will be provided.)
  • Access to a working PC with Windows 10, Antivirus Protection: Windows Defender and Windows Firewall; or Mac with Apple OS X 10.13, Antivirus Protection: Sophos; and personal mobile device (a headset is preferred)

Position Details:

  • 100% remote
  • Position is expected to be a 5 month engagement with the possibility to extend as needed
  • Regional Training Specialists will report to the Regional Team Manager while performing the functions of this position.
