We are looking for a Radar Cross Section (RCS) Engineer to join our organization

The Radar Cross Section Engineerwill be responsible for performing RCS predictions using the NRL Radar Target Signature (RTS) code and being part of an RCS maritime signatures Design Team. The focus of this Design Team is topside signatures and low observables technology and engineering for surface combatant ships. This is a career position for someone interested in a long-term commitment to RCS engineering.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare 3D surface ship models for implementation into RTS prediction software
  • Conduct specialized analysis of the RCS design using RTS
  • Participate in developing and implementing RCS budgets
  • Perform analysis both independently and as a team member
  • Using an approved surface ship RCS design specification, implement design decisions into the overall design
  • Develop RCS output data packages including statistical representations
  • Oversee the total ship RCS design model
  • Analyze results for validation of design requirements
  • Identify design deficiencies and develop recommendations for solutions
  • Develop design deliverables and present results to customer
  • Support RCS indoor and outdoor testing including at-sea testing
  • Using I and Q radar data, process the data into various outputs including 2D and 3D plots
  • Assist in developing RCS requirements given specific threat information including modeling and simulation (M&S)
Required Qualifications:
  • BS Degree in Physics or Engineering
  • At least two years of work experience in RCS reduction design and methodology in a maritime setting
  • Knowledge of Physical Optics, Maxwell's Equations, Electromagnetic Theory, Wave Mechanics, ocean multipath, radars, and sea clutter scattering
  • Understanding of surface ship low observables design and specifically RCS reduction phenomena and techniques
  • Competence in computational programming and experience with Linux OS, MATLAB, Python and C++
  • Experience with finite element meshing (FEM) techniques in the area of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) domain
  • Having participated in a surface combatant RCS reduction design
  • Knowledge of radar absorbent material (RAM) and structures (RAS)
  • Demonstrated competence in mathematics and statistical analysis
  • Experience with 3D Modeling and Modeling and Simulation (M&S) techniques
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret basic engineering drawings and specifications
  • Ability to work independently and with remote team members and/or customers
  • U.S. Citizen and must currently hold a US SECRET security clearance
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally
  • Must be able to develop technical reports, deliverables, and presentations. Must have excellent oral and writing skills.
Desired Skills:
  • Master of Science in Physics or Electrical Engineering
  • Understanding of surface ship low observable signatures, modeling, design, and solutions in the INFRARED and/or Electro-Optics/Visible spectra
  • Previous experience in RCS surface combatant ship design
  • Working knowledge of naval architecture, marine systems, platform or topside design principles
  • TS SCI Clearance
Security Requirements
Applicant will be subject to a security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain a security clearance issued by the US Government. In addition to the security clearance, this position may require an additional background screening for base access.
