General Overview:

The Senior Project Manager, Business Operations serves as a key business operations partner for the Executive Administrator for Nursing and Patient Care Services. Nursing and patient care services core leadership team.

Focusing on achieving and maintaining excellence in business operations, and financial performance, the Senior Project Manager will be responsible for providing and managing a wide variety of planning, project management, analytics, and strategic decision support across the entire array of all areas of responsibility, including:

  • All Nursing Areas: Ambulatory, Cardiovascular, Care Continuum Management, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Oncology, Peri-Op Services, Procedural and Women's Health
  • All functions related to systems and software integration to support operations.
  • Support for 5,000 nursing and patient care services employees.
  • Support, guide and advice nurse leaders on hospital policies, practices, and operations.
  • The Senior Project Manager regularly communicates with, prepares materials for, receives direction from, and provides counsel to the Executive Administrator, members of the Nurse Executive Board, and other senior leaders of the hospital and MGB.

Focusing on achieving and maintaining excellence in business operations, and financial performance, the Senior Project Manager will be responsible for providing and managing a wide variety of planning, project management, analytics, and strategic decision support across the entire array of all areas of responsibility, including:
  • All Nursing Areas: Ambulatory, Cardiovascular, Care Continuum Management, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Oncology, Peri-Op Services, Procedural and Women's Health
  • All functions related to systems and software integration to support operations.
  • Support for 5,000 nursing and patient care services employees.
  • Support, guide and advice nurse leaders on hospital policies, practices, and operations.
  • The Senior Project Manager regularly communicates with, prepares materials for, receives direction from, and provides counsel to the Executive Administrator, members of the Nurse Executive Board, and other senior leaders of the hospital and MGB.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Continuously interface with the SVP to provide strategic leadership and counsel within the areas of responsibility; lead internal consulting projects and initiatives related to the capture, analysis, interpretation, and utilization of financial, budget, operational, research, and training data used in decision-making that meets the needs of the enterprise.
  • Collaborate closely with the other departments, serving as a liaison between the Executive Administrator and department leads, for major projects and initiatives; focus will be on ensuring smooth and appropriate communication to senior leadership about the progress and status of major projects, the link between project progress and the financial and operational impact on the institution, and general management of administrative issues related to major projects
  • Direct system implementation and integration within nursing and patient care services to ensure a safe, predictable, efficient and effective strategy is in place for areas of responsibility. In collaboration with department leaders, direct the development and implementation of process improvement initiatives aimed at improving patient safety and compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, and DPH regulations across the clinical areas of responsibility.
  • Attend key, ongoing meetings; learn, define, and document practices in areas of responsibility. Develop an in-depth understanding of nursing and patient care services operations. Be involved with process improvement efforts in the areas of responsibility.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend areas of opportunity to increase operational efficiency that are consistent with the strategic vision of the institution.
  • In collaboration with the Real Estate and Planning office, develop and introduce additional standardized materials to organize and track all project that are requested, planned for, underway, and complete.
  • Continually review operational activities across all areas of responsibility for optimal efficiency partner with Executive Administrator and senior staff to lead changes in policy or new initiatives and help develop action plans.
  • Attend, staff, or facilitate meetings as assigned, and develop and present executive level analyses on key hospital programs and planning activities. Coordinate meeting agendas and minutes, and management of follow up tasks and directives as necessary.
  • Keep current regarding trends and developments in the health care field, particularly when they pertain to project management, strategic planning, analytic and decision support tools, financial trends, evolving technologies and programs, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required


Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required, master's degree in business administration or healthcare field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years progressive experience in project management/healthcare management, and/or strategic planning required; additional years of experience in healthcare operations management/analysis and business planning preferred.
  • Working experience in a similar academic medical center environment strongly preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, clinical operations management, strategy development, business and financial planning, budgeting, and financial reporting. Analytical skills required, including business trends and process analysis, and identification of system weaknesses.
  • A mastery knowledge of organizational theory, systems approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively at all levels of complex organization.
  • Ability to organize time and priorities effectively, asking for direction when appropriate. Flexibility to handle multiple tasks and deadline pressures.
  • Excellent ability to work with senior organizational leadership and with staff across complex multi-entity organization.
  • Demonstrated superior skills in financial, written, and oral communication.
  • Knowledge and experience in establishing and/or developing productive relationships with hospital administrators, other departmental leaders, and other healthcare industry leaders.
  • Ability to generate and encourage creative ideas, innovative thinking, and imaginative solutions to issues or problems.
  • Proven track record of maintaining the highest standards of performance, quality, credibility, and integrity.
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities within the context of a complex and large organization; ability to operate in a matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with all members of the organization in ways that enhance understanding, respect, cooperation, and problem solving.
  • Extraordinarily professional discretion in the handling of highly confidential and/or political information and data.
  • Strong understanding and applied use of Microsoft Office applications, personal computers, database function and design, and network concepts.
Working Conditions:

Works in an office setting. Attends meetings in and out of the hospital. Is available for early and late meetings and flexible to meet frequent deadlines. Some evening and weekend work will be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervision of administrative and project support staff assigned to program initiatives.
