Who are we looking for?

Our San Luis Obispo, CA office has an excellent opportunity for a Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager- Highways and Roads. This is a unique opportunity for a senior level individual to participate join a large, well-established organization with a culture that promotes teamwork, integrity, and respect. You will work closely with our highly skilled multi-disciplinary teams throughout the organization and our clients to efficiently deliver projects and provide high value consultancy services.

Working with an energetic and hard-working team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • Technical Guidance and Project Oversight: Providing guidance and expertise on various engineering projects, with a focus on transportation systems, such as highways, roadways, trails, and more
  • Design Delivery: Supervising and leading the production of complex engineering designs, drawings, details, and specifications
  • Coaching and Mentoring: Playing a significant role in mentoring junior staff, helping them develop their skills and knowledge
  • Actively engaging in community and professional organizations, representing our company and staying up-to-date with industry trends
  • Actively participating in client relationship management, attending client meetings as needed
  • Supporting Senior Project Managers with business development on behalf of GHD, position for new work and secure projects
  • Project Scope and Schedule Management: Assisting project managers in developing and managing project scopes, schedules, budgets, and quality plans. Your expertise will contribute to effective project planning and execution
  • Team Leadership: Leading a cohesive team, including sub-consultants, to achieve project objectives, promoting collaboration, and creating a positive work environment
What you will bring to the team:
  • Strong foundation and proficiency across multiple software design platforms - experience with both AutoCAD Civil 3D required, and Microstation desired. Supplemental transportation /traffic software experience a plus
  • Experience, familiarity with and knowledge of overall project delivery processes
  • Experience with local agency state and federally funded transportation projects administered by Caltrans
  • Ability to expand and grow relationships/business in transportation and other sectors within the US West Region
  • Capability to provide mentorship to staff within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team environment and knowledge with staff and peers
  • Ability to support project/client proposals and participate in interviews as needed.
  • Shown professional judgement and commercial skill, including identifying, assessing, evaluating and solving problems
  • Excellence at all stages of the project life-cycle, from preparing bids to feasibility studies, consenting, detailed design and data analysis, and customer management
  • Ability to advise and delegate work assignments to others, ensuring efficient project execution and team productivity
  • Robust written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to concisely convey complex issues
  • A self-starter with the ability to multi-task and prioritize deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field. Master's Degree considered a plus
  • Registered Civil Engineer in the State of California
  • 8+ years of experience with solid technical knowledge and skills across the transportation & municipal engineering, including a strong background in planning & design; construction experience a plus

Salary Range - $84,000-$126,000 based on experience.
