Krannert Center for the Performing Arts is seeking applications for a Program and Web Editor to lead the compilation, editorial, layout, and production of performance program booklets; maintain content on KrannertCenter.com; and collaborate on select other communications materials.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Performance Program Materials (40%)

  • Create and communicate the production schedule for all program booklets.
  • Obtain, compile, review, proof, and edit content (text and images) for resident producer (Illinois Theatre, Lyric Theatre @ Illinois, and Dance at Illinois) performance program booklets.
    • Supervise extra help program editor who performs this work for visiting artist (Marquee) program booklets.
    • Areas of attention include but are not limited to spelling, grammar, content accuracy, basic image quality, and content completeness. Information must be cross-checked against the event's page on KrannertCenter.com.
    • When appropriate, conduct research regarding program content to ensure accuracy and consistency. This can include items such as the spelling of national and international venues, artists, performances, and awards.
    • Process digital photo files for use in program booklets.
    • Ensure appropriate union, copyright, sponsorship, and acknowledgment credits are used.
    • This work is performed in collaboration with each performance's production team, which includes Krannert Center staff and Performing Arts at Illinois students, staff, and faculty.
  • Lay out the program in Adobe InDesign template. Using Krannert Center's guidelines for program layout, make decisions about content order, layout of content on page, and formatting.
  • Manage proofing and print delivery of each program.
  • Coordinate and manage timely review of the program proof by multiple reviewers using Workamajig proofing management program.
  • Deliver program file to printer by deadline and review printer proof by deadline.
  • Ensure program booklets are printed and delivered to Krannert Center by deadline.
  • The majority of this work involves booklets to be printed. However, digital-only programs are at times required.
  • Devise and implement creative content strategies and continual process improvement for the performance program materials.
Web Content (30%)
  • Update, revise, and maintain various aspects of a FileMaker Pro database, the KrannertCenter.com content management system, the University of Illinois web calendar, and Facebook event pages, including but not limited to Krannert Center performance records, which contain artist names, composition names, program booklet files, ticket prices, and other items.
  • Perform research pertaining to the performing arts, past artistry, and the history of Krannert Center as appropriate to support this work.
  • Write, edit, and proofread content with accuracy and appropriate style in a timely manner.
  • Devise and implement creative content strategies and continual process improvement for website content.
Other Materials (15%)
  • Prepare schedules and text for select communications channels such as posters, weekly emails, and advertisements, as assigned.
  • Lead the proofreading for Krannert Center communication materials, ensuring that content follows Krannert Center and University of Illinois standards.
  • Maintain the Krannert Center writing and voice style guide? answer questions from staff related to style and usage.
Other Collaborative, Administrative, and Committee Work (15%)
  • Collaborate in the work of the Communications team to develop and implement integrated online/offline communications strategies and plans that support business goals for Krannert Center and the performance-related areas of Illinois Theatre, Lyric Theatre @ Illinois, and Dance at Illinois.
  • Maintain knowledge of Krannert Center's diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) efforts and actively apply DEIA principles to work.
  • As appropriate, participate in various committees and initiatives at Krannert Center, in the College of Fine and Applied Arts, and at the campus level.
  • As assigned, keep records and prepare reports for periodic assessment of project resource use.
  • Write, edit, and/or proof for special projects if assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Position Qualifications:

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, advertising, communications, or a field related to the position.
  • Two (2) years of professional work experience in communications, promotions, public relations, advertising, or event planning.
  • Demonstrated professional experience writing or editing.

Preferred
  • Master's degree.
  • Experience with website content management including basic HTML.
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign.
  • Experience in performing arts communication.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time and multiple projects simultaneously and to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to quickly learn new computer-based skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style or a similar style guide. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with digital proofing software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Professional, flexible, and respectful in all work with colleagues and clients.
  • Independent judgment and ability to help resolve problems as they arise, dealing with time pressures and changing or conflicting priorities.

Salary and Appointment Information:
This is a full-time, benefits eligible Civil Service Publicity-Promotion Associate position. The expected start date is as soon as possible following the close of the search. Salary will be $53,400
