Job Summary:

The School of Communication and the Arts at Marist College invites applications for a full-time Professional Lecturer in Fashion Design, with a desired expertise in all aspects of fashion design. This position requires extensive knowledge of creative and technical fashion design, with a desired additional skill set in digital fashion design. Candidates should have expertise in pattern drafting, draping, garment construction, fitting, portfolio development, illustration, and fashion figure drawing. Additional desired fashion skill sets such as trend forecasting, product development, and merchandising will be highly regarded.

This position is part of a cluster hiring initiative in Digital Innovation in the School of Communication and the Arts, in conjunction with Fashion Design and Multimedia Storytelling, and a college-wide hiring initiative with the goal of creating a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive institution.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Significant professional experience in fashion design
  • Ability to teach effectively

Essential Functions:

  • Teach undergraduate courses from introductory to advanced levels of creative and technical design - from initial creative concept through collection execution.
  • Emphasize the importance of digital design in the fashion industry and how these skills are incorporated throughout the design process.
  • Mentor senior capstone thesis projects.
  • Meet with students outside of class time for additional instruction as appropriate.
  • Engage in a variety of service duties, including school and college committee service, curriculum development and assessment, admissions, and community/industry outreach.
  • Mentor student scholarship competition entries
  • Engage in academic advising

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or terminal degree in Fashion Design
  • Three or more years of teaching at the collegiate level with evidence of effective teaching.
  • Experience with digital fashion programs such as CLO 3D, PLM software, and Adobe.
  • The ability to demonstrate a strong analytical and creative skill set, deep knowledge of the latest disruptions within the fashion industry, and the ability to teach and critique student work based on standards of the fashion industry.
  • Deep collaborative spirit to work with other department faculty on cross-pollination of design and merchandising coursework, curriculum evolution and new interdisciplinary approaches to program initiatives
