Assist the Production Manager to ensure the efficient and safe operation of milk, cheese, and whey processing lines to produce high quality dairy products. Directly supervises production team members. This position specializes in whey production and sanitation activities.

  • Direct supervision of Whey Plant operation
  • Coach, counsel, and train employees
  • Supervise daily cheese, packaging, warehouse, whey plant, and production personnel
  • Develop and monitor Whey Plant employee schedule.
  • Schedule Whey Plant production.
  • Input data into SAP
  • Assist and conduct with plant inspections
  • Work with QC concerning food safety and SQF procedures and regulations.
  • Work with safety department concerning DFA and regulatory safety procedures and regulations.
  • Write up and maintain cheese and whey department job descriptions.
  • Work with HR on any personnel issues or disciplinary actions.
  • Champion Kaizen, 5S and Leader Standard Work Programs.
  • Promote Behavior Based Observation Program
  • Ensure that all documentation is done correctly, accurately and turned in promptl
  • yEnsure that plant is operating in compliance with all federal, state, and local food industry regulations (CDFA, USDA, FDA, OSHA, EPA, etc.). Report any non-compliance immediately per established protocol.
  • Exhibit the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America through honesty, discretion, and sound judgment
  • Ensure Dairy University training is kept up to date
  • Schedule and monitor WPC and DPW shipments.
  • Monitor membrane equipment and membrane performance.
  • Inventory and order supplies needed for Cheese and Whey plants
  • Direct supervision of the sanitation/cleaning program for the Cheese and Whey plant.
  • Train employees on chemical safety and cleaning procedures.
  • Inventory and order cleaning chemicals for Cheese and Whey plant
  • Work with chemical company representatives on cleaning and chemical performance
  • Maintain all pasteurizer log books
  • Ensure all plant personnel are operating in compliance with plant and corporate procedures (GMPs, SSOPs, HACCP, IIPP, etc.) for quality, food safety, sanitation, and safety.
  • Follow all DFA good manufacturing practices (GMP) and work in a manner consistent with all corporate regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements
  • Adhere to all DFA Quality, Safety and GMP policies and procedures and report any nonconformity
  • Attend required training, including but not limited to, Safety, GMP, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), and Safe Quality Foods (SQF)

Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Five years of production experience in food-related industry.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of cheese production and process
  • Knowledge of whey and membrane processes
  • Knowledge in Separators, pump and valve teardowns
  • Ability to trouble shoot production and equipment problems.
  • Effective coaching, leadership, attention to detail, and follow-through
  • Effective time management skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must be able to learn and use SAP transactions related to this position.
  • Must have a flexible schedule to work rotating shifts
