Summary of Role:

Principal Engineer Process Engineering - Provides on shift technical and sustaining and development engineering support in CMP area. Recommends and implements equipment and process modifications to improve production efficiencies, manufacturing techniques and production yields for existing products. Design, support and conducts statistical analysis such as Design of Experiments (DOE) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) targeting physical cause of failure for yield loss and improving quality.

Essential Responsibilities Include:

  • The individual will be responsible for process transfer, equipment planning, selection, configuration, installation, start up and volume ramp for CMP and related processes.
  • The role also involves establishing the process engineering related business processes and standard operating procedures (SOP) necessary to run the tools in production, as well as their documentation.
  • The engineer should be capable of creating training materials and perform the training for shift technicians.
  • The timely realization of the ramp up plan requires very close interaction with all internal and external stakeholders and close working relationship with equipment suppliers.
  • As a team player, the candidate needs good interaction with Process Integration, Manufacturing, Technology Development team and Vendor/Suppliers.
  • After the equipment start and ramp up, the individual would be responsible for 7/24 sustaining activities and process engineering tasks including performance tracking, equipment matching and continuous improvement.
  • Work with equipment, process engineers, and manufacturing teams to ensure production wafer quality (e.g. achieve Cp/Cpk targets, eliminate yield systematics and meet line/wafer yield targets) and on time delivery.
  • A good working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), Structured Problem Solving skills and Failure Mode & Effect Analytical (FMEA) methods would be essential.
  • Responsible for process run path management.
  • Provide initial response to abnormal tool down events.
  • Support change point management across shifts.
  • The position will be located at GlobalFoundries in Malta, New York, and report to the Fab8 CMP Process Engineering Manager.

  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs


Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics or other relevant engineering/physical science discipline is required
  • 4-6 years of industry experience
  • Fluent in English Language - written & verbal
  • Ability to work in night shift system including weekend coverage
  • Able to perform shift work on a 12-hour shift schedule; including working in a cleanroom environment per semiconductor industry and GlobalFoundries protocol/requirements
  • Able to wear all required clean room protective clothing and equipment throughout a 12 hour day (excluding breaks)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • B.S./Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics or other relevant engineering/physical science discipline is required
  • Certifications in semiconductor tools of interest.
  • Understanding and knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • 5years experience in high volume semiconductor manufacturing site.
  • Experience in CMP and Backgrind is highly preferable
  • Able to multitask
  • Able to work in teams
  • Able to efficiently problem solve
  • Able to make decisions with little supervision
  • Able to work with computers and automated systems
  • Knowledge of FDC and SPC
  • Understanding of APC
  • Can do statistical analysis
  • Can understand and create design of experiment
