The Principal Optical Engineer is responsible for opto-electronic components and systems that drive significant impact to the organization. Within Engineering R&D there are opportunities to learn about our technology and develop your skills in analysis and modeling.

This position is part of the Engineering R&D organization, Optics team member, and will be in in Sunnyvale, CA with full time and some remote work as appropriate for the position and timing. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Work on engineering designs for current and future systems
• Develop a deep system level understanding of qPCR.
• Work on Sustaining projects
• Evaluate optical systems for improvements.
• Understand FDA requirements.

The essential requirements of the job include:

• Degree in Optics, EE, Physics, Fluidics or related disciplines
• Prefer MS minimum or Ph.D.
• Ability to collaborate, learn, evaluate, analyze, and implement solutions.
• Strong skills in component and subsystem testing via automated measurements.
• Min. 5 years experiences with opto-electronics systems, and knowledge of fluorescence processes, molecular biochemistry, biomed materials and processing, optical elements sourcing, and fabrication, and PCR fundamentals.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

• Zemax
• Solid Works
• MS products
• Agile

The salary range for this role is $200,000 to $220.000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for annual bonus/incentive pay of 15% of the base.
