Principal Data Engineer We are a Scottsdale based specialty cloud software company who is serving a niche market providing them with critical data. And... we are growing in leaps and bounds. Right now we are at 90 people and due to our extensive growth we expect to be double that by the years' end.

As we grow we are in need of lots of data engineers, from staff through Principal. But the most critical of these is the principal data engineer . You will need a solid understanding and expertise in architecting enterprise SaaS platforms focusing on API Design, microservices, NoSQL and frontend frameworks. This role is responsible for leading next-generation, modern production system. Performance, reliability, and technical leadership are all core competencies in this role. You will be performing the planning necessary to ensure reliability, scalability, and viability of products while supporting other developers through peering and mentoring.
What You Will Be Doing - Lead, develop and execute production-grade data integration and engineering code end-to-end through vision, definition, development, deployment and sustainment.
- Work with technology leadership to identify, implement new technologies and techniques that can improve our overall platform performance and ultimate customer experience.
- Partner with Product Management to ensure data design, engineering and implementation is in accordance with design intention and meets business needs.
- Develop and maintain relationships with diverse teams spanning all organizational levels to effectively articulate technology solutions and gain trust and buy-in
- Mentor junior engineer and lead analysis of product tradeoffs and deliver simple and intuitive products that just work.
What You Need for this Position - Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field; or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of software engineering experience
- 3-5 years of experience designing, building and deploying high-availability web services in a lead or senior development role
- 3+ years of hands on cloud experience (Azure, AWS, GCP), Azure data factory is a plus
- Experience with Data warehouses, and data pipelines (Azure Synapse is a plus)
- Experience with infrastructure as code and Terraform
- Experience with data quality checks, data validation and data anomaly detection
- Previous experience with data warehouse integration and data engineering using real-time messaging, batch ETL/ELT, etc. in data management discipline. Data Bricks is a plus
- Experience building batch and streaming pipelines with Apache Spark framework
- Previous experience using programming languages and experience working in a DevOps culture.
- Proven experience leading teams resulting in the successful deployment of applications built on data platforms.
- Demonstrated understanding of enterprise data warehouse, Azure cloud, big data, BI & analytics, and data management practices.
- Ability to conceptualize end-to-end system components across a wide range of technologies and translate into architectural design patterns for implementation
- Comfortable failing fast and working in a cross-disciplinary team environment
- A clear understanding of Functional and Object-Oriented programming paradigms, as well as their advantages and disadvantages
- Strong design and extensive implementation experience with Node.js and core Javascript within a highly-scalable production environment
- Experience with at least one type of queuing system (Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, etc)
- Experience with at least one RDBMS (MS SQL, PostgreSQL, RDS, Oracle, etc)
- Experience with at least one document-oriented DB (MongoDB, CouchDB, etc)
- Experience using, designing and building GraphQL/REST/Web Service APIs
- Production experience with container orchestration and maintaining production environments
- Fluency with the full software development lifecycle using Agile methodologies
