The Principal Business Analyst role is both a strategic and hands-on role that provides project leadership and support to significant, enterprise projects. You will play a critical part in consulting with the business, providing superior customer support (internal and external), managing change and driving functional excellence and process improvement. You will be responsible for evaluating business processes, anticipating requirements, identifying areas for improvement, designing solutions, and engaging with the customer directly on key areas of opportunity. Candidates for this role enjoy solving problems, are analytical and enjoy working with data, have a strong interest in exploring and learning new skills and concepts, and are comfortable working in ambiguous situations. An innovative mind is critical in this role. It is critical that this individual have outstanding organization, communication and change management skills.

The Principal Business Analyst is accountable for gathering the Voice of Customer, identifying and building project charters, facilitating the delivery, resolution and escalation of initiatives, and communicating effectively. The stakeholder matrix for this position is vast, including both internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead analytics and data insights for a global customer, leading others to solve complex problems
  • Engage with the customer on identifying and prioritizing areas of analysis and opportunity globally
  • Interpret internal/external business challenges and recommend best practices to improve products, processes or services
  • Develop new ways of getting insights out of data that allow C.H. Robinson to improve supply chain services
  • Advocate and build data-fueled products that help our global customers and partners improve business outcomes
  • Serve as the single point of contact and be accountable for all data related activities and requests
  • Work closely with Reporting resources to build key data sets to empower operational and exploratory analysis
  • Work with internal and external resources to improve the company's technical and operational capabilities aligned with global customer's goals and requirements
  • Document and maintain project related plans, process flows/VSM's, and metrics
  • Create and maintain technical roadmaps for areas of responsibility
  • Work with the business, the Customer and IT to improve data strategy and quality
  • Communicate project progress and facilitate project-related meetings to meet deliverables and escalate when needed quickly as necessary
  • Drive change management with all stakeholders - internal and external. Lead without authority and be confident and assertive with a willingness to challenge appropriately
  • Deliver global projects successfully and on time with quality solutions
  • Teach and coach global team members in utilizing tools
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned according to the team and/or country specific requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • A minimum of 6 years of professional experience with technology-based systems
  • Experience with data visualization using tools like Microsoft Power BI

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to combine strong analytical and technical skills with the business skills to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Knowledge of API, EDI, and other data sharing interfaces
  • Ability to self-serve in SQL and reporting using large sets of data is a plus
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate difficult concepts
  • Understand root causes of changes in metrics
  • Passionate about empirical research, asking and answering questions in large datasets, finding patterns and insights within structured data
  • Combines creativity, problem-solving skills, and a can-do attitude to overcome any obstacle
  • Outstanding organization, communication and change management skills
  • Proven track record of delivering projects on time and with exceptional quality
  • Collaborative and able to work with a team
