We are seeking a full-time prep cook to support student success with our allergen station for lunch and dinner service.

This is a year-round position and generally works Monday - Friday from 11:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. and every sixth weekend.

Specific responsibilities:

Prepare daily menu items as approved by the Head Chef , Campus Dietitian and Lead Allergen Chef. Responsible for storage, preparation, cooking, set up, maintaining quality, and clean up of allergen station items. This position oversees a portion of the breakfast and lunch hours during the academic year.  - 60%

Attend all In Service programs to include Allertrain, CPR, Serve Safe, Emergency Action Plans, Business & Finance Updates, etc.  - 5%

Ensure quality of food with batch cooking of standardized recipes and by monitoring eye appeal, freshness and nutrition standards. - 10%

Maintain safety and sanitation standards per FDA Food Code, HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) plans and per FARE (Food Allergy Research and Education) Allergen Safety Training. Follow all SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures) in safe use of equipment. Use documentation as defined by Dining Services to ensure safe food. Clean and sanitize all work areas, equipment and supplies. - 15%

Ensure all guest communication and station signage is accurate, consistent  and transparent. - 10%

Perform additional duties as assigned and attend College required training. Regular attendance is required. Work in a manner that is aware of personal safety and the safety of others and observes safety, health and sanitation codes, regulations, or practices required by the College or governmental authority.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Education -

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience and Credentials -

  • 1-2 years experience as a line cook and prior work in a high volume food service setting is preferred.

  • Food Service Sanitation Certification and CPR Certification is preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse campus environment or commitment to do so as an employee of St. Norbert College.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities -

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

  • Ability to interact professionally with coworkers and customers, particularly in conflict situations.

  • Ability to interact politely and resolve customer service issues.

  • Ability to multitask, meet specific deadlines, and prioritize tasks and assignments.

  • Skilled in basic math computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and decisions in an expeditious manner.

  • Skilled at setting a good example for others. 

  • Ability to concentrate and focus in a noisy environment.

  • Skilled at providing excellent customer service when engaging with guests and responding to feedback in a positive manner.

Equipment Used:

Oven, grills, woks. induction burners, steam kettles, deep fryers, hot holding cabinets, choppers, blenders, slicers, knives, and other general cooking utensils.

Working Conditions:

Position generally works 11:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m., Monday - Friday and every sixth weekend. Position generally able to complete tasks however interruptions throughout the shift can be very frequent at times depending on the needs of the department.

  • Standing and walking frequently.  Twisting, bending, reaching, crouching, pushing, pulling, or lifting up to 25 lbs. occasionally.  Extreme temperature is occasional.
