Princeton University and the African School of Economics (ASE) have an opening for a postdoctoral research associate or more senior researcher to participate in a project on experiments and institutions. The project is part of the research portfolio of the Institutional Experimental Lab (IEL) and the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Hub, Africa Initiative (EIH), a collaboration between Princeton University and ASE funded by the Dean for Research of Princeton University. Despite a significant increase in policy experimentation during the last two decades, there has been little development in the area of institutional experimentation or experiments on decision-making processes in public or private organizations. Most of the research in this area is theoretical and has rarely been field-tested in governments and private corporations, despite increasing demand for the knowledge this could generate, particularly in the developing world. The IEL is recruiting a postdoctoral research associate who will play a major role in pushing this research agenda by refining the design of these types of experiments and developing partnerships with governments and private corporations from around the world to get them implemented and scaled up. We are looking for candidates with a Ph.D. in economics, management, political economy, or related areas with expertise either in game theory, particularly mechanism design or experimental methods and machine learning. The term of this appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
