Job Summary:

The Post Grad Year of Service (PGYS) Member position provides the opportunity to serve others, explore social justice issues in the local community, and develop servant leader skills. This position is actively involved in the daily implementation of afterschool programs for the Reading Youth Initiative (RYI) and provides leadership to student employee staff and volunteers.

Essential Functions:

1. Promote Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University as demonstrated by the University Ideal Characteristics. Employees should share the same sense of purpose with being service oriented, respectful, inclusive, intellectually curious, problem solving, innovative, and accountable.

2. Provide coordination and leadership on staff and volunteer recruitment, training, and onboarding. This includes implementing on-campus outreach, events, and marketing and communication.

3. Ensure successful and efficient daily implementation of afterschool programming (in-person and/or virtual) for local youth, focusing on children from disadvantaged backgrounds in our community. Responsibilities may include regular communication and coordination with Teacher Site-Leaders; preparing and directing educationally enriching activities; and coordination of schedules and supervision of volunteers, student employees and university partners.

4. Coordinate and supervise Student Leaders in their professional development, in-office projects and team building activities.

5. Assist in quality improvement of the program through tracking evaluation data and documenting program events. Develop and implement projects to improve the program through employee and volunteer feedback.

6. Represent the Holleran Center for Community and Global Engagement at campus and community events when requested (some evening and weekend hours will be required).

Qualification/Education:

1. Commitment to the mission statement, core values and goals of Alvernia University.

2. Must have obtained an undergraduate degree within the last 3 years

3. Have a valid Driver's License

4. Effective communication skills

5. Self-starter who is comfortable working both as a team and independently

6. Ability to collaborate with a diverse population in a professional manner

7. Organized and effective time management skills

8. Ability to adapt and refocus in any situation

9. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends

10. Meet the requirements to be eligible for employment in the United States

Physical Requirements:

1. Attendance is required in order to perform the duties of this job.

2. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

3. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

Benefits:

1. Housing and partial meal plan provided

2. 26 hour work-week, hourly stipend

4. 9-month commitment (August - May)

5. One paid graduate-level class in Fall, and one paid graduate-level class in Spring (excluding fees and books)
