Post-Doctoral Fellow - 28736 Faculty
Description
University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus
Department: Medicine – Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care
Job Title: Post-Doctoral Fellow
Position #:00655220 – Requisition #:28736
Job Summary:
The Schwartz/Yang laboratory uses genome editing approaches to manipulate genetic variants and expression of key gens in primary cell and animal models. Computational approaches include genetic screens for genes that interact with MUC5B, identification of biomarkers of early disease, and single cell and spatial transcriptomic technologies. The ultimate goal is to understand the early mechanisms of lung fibrosis, develop biomarkers for early detection, use MUC5B to identify key pathogenic mechanisms in lung fibrosis, and ultimately identify therapeutics for early treatment of disease.
Multiple postdoctoral positions are available for highly motivated candidates to join the research program of Drs. David Schwartz and Ivana Yang at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Drs. Schwartz and Yang conduct cutting-edge basic and translational research in pulmonary fibrosis, focusing on genetics, genomics, epigenetics, animal models, and molecular determinants of human pulmonary fibrosis. Their group identified a gain-of-function genetic variant in the airway mucin MUC5B as the key predisposition factor for development of early and established forms of pulmonary fibrosis and are now pursuing projects in functional genomics. Current funded projects include:
Mechanism regulating lung injury and early lung fibrosis with an emphasis on MUC5B, ER stress, apoptosis, cilia function and mucus clearance, and biophysical dysfunction of distal airway epithelia.
Characterization of novel animal model of MUC5B-induced fibrosis.
Investigation of genes and transcripts that interact with MUC5B in diversity outbred mice.
Role of IncRNAs in modifying the genetic susceptibility in pulmonary fibrosis.
Central role of MUC5B in the molecular drivers of usual interstitial pneumonia.
Whole genome sequence analysis in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Biomarkers of early interstitial lung disease.
Why Join Us:
The Division of Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care Medicine strives to create a welcoming and inclusive environment, engage with diverse perspectives through a growth mindset, and maximize the success and inclusion of all trainees, staff, and faculty. We are committed to creating a healthy work environment that values and promotes well-being of our trainees, staff, and faculty. Though we are a large division, we are continuously fostering our supportive community that values diversity and inclusion.
We are very proud of our long and illustrious history. Many seminal discoveries in pulmonary and critical care medicine occurred here in Denver, including advances in tuberculosis, interstitial lung disease, airway disease, cancer, and critical care. Many of our former trainees have taken leadership roles in academic medicine, including Division and Department Chairs, Deans, and American Thoracic Society Presidents.
