What we offer:
    The salary for this position is $45,672 ($3,806/month), non-negotiable. This position has been determined to be eligible for overtime (non-exempt) under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This position is eligible for shift differentials if hours worked are during those set times. Description:

Provide and maintain a safe and secure environment in which academic pursuits may flourish, in accordance with the established goals of the University of Colorado, through service in the following areas:
    POLICE - provide for the safety and security of persons and property on the UCCS campus. Enforcement of state and federal statutes and University rules and regulations. Responsible for reporting, investigating and processing criminal and non-criminal incidents on the UCCS campus. RISK MANAGEMENT - create, promote, and control safe working environment. Corrects, reduces and contains exposures and losses due to the operation of UCCS. Responsible for reporting, investigating and processing Insurance claims for and against the UCCS. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY - service to provide safety information, specialization, review, inspection, and recommendations on the plans for environmental safety on the campus including the following areas: fire protection, occupational safety, laboratory safety, regulated waste disposal and other areas as required. PARKING -Provide parking to the community through the management and maintenance of the parking facilities on the UCCS campus. STUDENT IDENTIFICATION PROGRAM - Provide identification cards to faculty, students and staff.

This position exists to protect the lives, health, safety and property of the public by expeditiously receiving, analyzing, interpreting, evaluating and prioritizing multiple simultaneous emergency requests for law enforcement, fire, ambulance, and rescue services. Allocate, deploy and monitor the activities of responding units; to provide service to the University community, the general public, other departments and outside agencies by receiving, analyzing, interpreting, evaluating and prioritizing multiple simultaneous non-emergency requests for information and assistance; to allocate, deploy and monitor the activities of the required non-emergency services; to direct the request to the appropriate person, department or agency for resolution; to provide communications and information resource support for field units and outside agencies under mutual aid agreements. The position also exists to aid in the training of new communication interns and technicians personnel. This position also performs office support tasks including but not limited to filing, data entry, and checking in and out keys and equipment and serves as a liaison to the campus community, outside community and resources.
    Position must pass pre-employment background screenings. Position works rotating shifts to include weekends, holiday, and school breaks.

Key responsibilities include:
    Protects the public by receiving, analyzing, interpreting, and prioritizing multiple simultaneous emergency and non-emergency calls for service for police, fire, ambulance, rescue, security, parking, facilities, and other university and outside departments and agencies using multi-line telephone consoles, multi-channel radio consoles, multiple computer systems and data bases and multiple alarm systems to promptly and accurately determine the level of response required for each prioritized event and to allocate and deploy the appropriate and necessary resources. Records and documents details of call information, resource deployment, response times, unit activity and status, personnel deployment and status, pending incident status and call loading by accessing and operating a computer-aided dispatching system. Expeditiously processes, coordinates and relays concise, accurate information by accessing, extracting, analyzing and interpreting general, criminal justice, departmental, university and other printed or computer based information resources. Enters, audits, modifies, updates, corrects, removes, replaces, records, documents, retrieves, distributes and secures local, state and national criminal justice records and data-bases, departmental and University databases, lists, logs, forms, files, records, memoranda, and written procedures. Trains new communications personnel by providing instruction, counseling, direction, evaluation, critique and practical proficiency examination using a structured departmental communications training program. Prepares documents, memoranda, training materials, procedures manuals, disaster response protocols and other written materials for dissemination and distribution after review and approval by supervisors. Position monitors numerous computer alarm systems including 911 notifications, fire alarms, and building control alerts. Position analyzes the alarm information in order to deploy appropriate emergent and/or non-emergent response and records all incident activity into CAD. Position operates, troubleshoots, and aids in the maintenance of numerous dispatch equipment including all computers, radios, phones, recording equipment, fax machine and other dispatch office equipment and supplies. Any equipment problems or failures that cannot be resolved by the technician must be referred to appropriate personnel or department. All other duties as assigned.

Tentative Search Timeline:
    Priority will be given to applications submitted by February 15, 2023. However, this posting will remain open until filled. The potential dates for interviews with the search committee will be the week of February 27, 2023. The potential dates for interviews with the supervisor and appointing authority will be the week of March 6, 2023. The potential employee start date is March 27, 2023.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
    One year of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position. Completion of an authorized Communications Officer Training Program or equivalent will substitute for the required experience.

Preferred Requirements:
    Police dispatching experience in University, on-campus housing environment.
