Position Overview

Due to growth in our Windows infrastructure and with influx of additional "Big Data" landing, we are looking for a Platform Engineer to expand our Windows support infrastructure team. The team is responsible for supporting all Windows based technology platforms globally with a focus on implementing next generation of Big Data processing systems designed on Hadoop technology.

The successful candidate will lead us in maintaining existing technology platforms while designing next generation of Windows based computing platforms using Automation and Azure DevOps

We are looking for a Platform Engineer who has a broad set of technology skills across many areas associated with Windows (2016, 2019 etc.). The individual needs to demonstrate the ability to manage mission critical 24 x 7 large Windows based processing systems while designing next generation computing platforms.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Support 24 x 7 existing Windows based systems running on Microsoft Technologies
  • Support and Maintain Azure technology and deployment including working with Microsoft DevOps
  • Patch, upgrade and build systems as required by customers ensuring all policies and procedures are implemented
  • Work with the team to investigate, prototype, propose and develop next generation technology options for distributed computing
  • Proactively performance tune existing systems, seek for opportunities to enhance delivery of services to end customers
  • Build adhoc scripts to gather system information, automate manual tasks for efficiency (Shell / Perl), build documentation and standard operating procedures
  • Manage, monitor and scale cloud infrastructures using Puppet, Ganglia, Nagios and other open sources tools
  • Be part of the Platform team to support 700+ Windows and virtual servers
  • Partners with Networking and Storage teams to innovate and support new technologies
  • Collect and review system data for capacity and planning purposes
  • Work closely with clients to provide technical insight and analytics
  • Develop puppet modules for configuration management
  • Create scripts to improve automated installations and maintenance
  • Provide Operational support including maintenance (software updates), hardware break/fix, and interfacing with vendor tech support
  • Candidate will be 50% on Windows day to day administration, 30% on project-based work and 20% on innovation, research and development


Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ Years of significant Windows administration and configuration experience
  • BA in a technology field or applicable work experience
  • Some travel (
  • Participation in a rostered 24 x 7 operational team supporting the Windows infrastructure and willing to be on-call during off hours for approximately one week per month


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in systems infrastructure administration and development
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, organization, time and project management
  • Interface with business partners
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • In-depth technical knowledge of Window Server 2008, 2012
  • In-depth technical knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory principles and security best practices
  • In-depth technical knowledge of DNS, IPAM, Microsoft Clustering, Migration of File and Print Services
  • In-depth knowledge of Multi Site Exchange environment and Failover
  • Experience working with Citrix Xen environment and troubleshooting
  • Experience with VMWare Platform a plus (ESXI 6.7)
  • Knowledge of MacAfee EPO Server Platform a plus
  • Experience with SharePoint a plus
  • Must be willing to travel domestic and international as needed (10%)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure Architecture, configuration, Automation, DevOps and Azure Technology a big plus.
  • Intermediate knowledge of storage (SAN/NAS) systems
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to deliver with minimal supervision
  • Ability to create technical documentations including drawings and system processes
  • Experience in optimizing, monitoring and deploying applications within a distributed hybrid cloud environment
  • Experience with various server hardware vendors such as HP, Dell and IBM
  • Ability to translate business requirements to technical solutions delivering best of class solutions for NPD's long-term success
  • Strong Knowledge of Varonis Data Protector and agents
  • Strong Knowledge of Shavlik Windows Patch Management
  • Experience with server backup and recovery methodologies
  • Knowledge of VMWare ESX and infrastructure components
  • Strong Knowledge of other virtualization technologies such as VMware View, Citrix Xen Server and Xen Desktop
  • Strong Knowledge of PowerShell, User/Kernel Dump analysis, Network protocol & packet analysis
  • Experience with server backup and recovery methodologies
  • Antivirus methodologies and best practices using MacAfee EPO technologies
  • Experience in large heterogeneous (600+ Server) environments
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to author technical documents and create procedure manuals
  • Strong interpersonal skills, oral communication skills, and proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong understanding of the organization's goals and objectives
  • Ability to conduct research into current and future technologies
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • On-call availability 24/7 as part of a rotation schedule

Technical Skills:
  • Management of Virtualization technologies (VMWARE)
  • Ability to script in one or more of the following languages (Ruby, Python, JavaScript, Shell and Bash)
  • In-depth experience in Windows AD, Scripting, Powershell, JSON etc.


Below is a sample work calendar for the candidates that you should discuss with the candidates

Daily Operational support: 9am - 5pm
  • Candidate will be monitoring all Linux systems, reviewing logs, performing schedule changes, monitoring incident tickets, performing project-oriented activities, participate on daily operational turnover call 2pm GMT, update their global counterparts on system health and activities


Off Hour support: 24 x 7 - Team Rotation
  • Candidate will participate in the global off hour support schedule of approximately one week per month
  • Option will be provided to work from home the entire week during on-call rotation
  • Candidate will be expected to perform their tasks from home as they would in the office

Monthly Production Support
  • One Saturday per month 10am - 5pm, candidate will work with global counterpart to participate in the monthly change activities
  • As environments evolve and the experience of the candidate matures within the organization, they can expect to perform changes of environments within their domain on this monthly change window
  • Candidate will have the option of working remotely to perform these changes


Due to the nature of system administration role, candidate can potentially get calls in case of an emergency situation to help resolve a production issue at any time. In the past 12 months, the maximum this has happened was five times. This will vary depending on the expertise of the candidate.
