The Plant Manager has overall responsibility for manufacturing operations to ensure coordination and integration of workflow, budgetary conformance, schedules, and optimum utilization of staff, machines, equipment, and facilities. In this role, you will formulate strategic long term and short-term operating objectives in the areas of production efficiencies, quality improvement, cost reductions, new product development, capital expenditures, plant improvements, and training. You will have direct responsibility for leading, mentoring and developing a team and ensuring that plant KPI's meet or exceed goals.

How you will make contributions that matter...

  • Ensure plant provides products that meet quality standards, manufacturing costs, and customer requirements while driving sound manufacturing principles
  • Provide vision, direction, and leadership for the formulation and implementation of process improvements and lean initiatives using Six Sigma tools
  • Drive cultural change, accountability, and continuous improvement mindset throughout the organization
  • Lead with Integrity and full compliance to be a role model for all employees.
  • Facilitate a strong safety and quality culture
  • Drive continuous improvement throughout all plant functions to reduce costs, improve safety and quality, and improve equipment reliability
  • Monitor and evaluate goals, driving for standardized effective solutions to existing problems.
  • Coordinate and direct major projects such as expansions, installation of equipment, major repairs, plant layout changes, etc.
  • Responsible for coordinating and initiating development activities in response to emerging business needs
  • Assures compliance of all plant operations with company policy and federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Promotes and maintains the highest possible customer satisfaction level for both internal and external customers
  • Manage employee workforce in a manner that encourages employee involvement/participation with emphasis on continuous improvement and customer satisfaction
  • Confer with other department heads to ensure coordination of purchasing, quality, safety, customer service, costs, and employee relations functions with staff.
  • Conduct employee performance reviews and mentor employees to foster an effective plant leadership team
  • Select, train, develop, and motivate manufacturing staff to maintain plant operation
  • Promotes and adheres to all policies and procedures relating to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), food safety and regulatory compliance.

You are best suited for the role if you...
  • Have a bachelor's degree in food science, Industrial Engineering, or Operations Management or related field with 7-10 years of progressive management experience. Plant Manager or Assistant Plant Manager experience in the dairy or cheese manufacturing industry is a must have.
  • Have strong knowledge of USDA, FDA, HACCP, and GMP's to ensure compliance to Food Safety requirements.
  • Have broad and diverse knowledge production processes.
  • Demonstrate business acumen, including implication of business decisions.
  • Are skilled in leadership, team building and employee relations -Positive can-do attitude.
  • Have experience with successful implementation of manufacturing principles (5S, LEAN, Focused Improvement, and TPM) to drive continuous improvement.
  • Can lead and direct cross functional teams.
  • Have a strong understanding of cost structures and key performance indicators.
  • Have a track record of reducing costs, transportation, crewing and waste.
  • Can roll up sleeves and work as a hands-on team player.
  • Lead, motivate, mentor and delegate a team.
  • Are computer literate with excellent planning and presentation skills.
  • Are comfortable occasionally lifting or moving up to 50lbs, can stand or walk up to 5 hours, can sit for up to 6 hours.
  • Are comfortable if exposed to high noise, cold and/or wet conditions, dusty environments, chemicals.
