We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Permitting Specialist to join the Clean Fuels and Infrastructure team. The Permitting Specialist will be responsible for coordinating the obtainment of the necessary permits, licenses, and approvals required for the installation of electric and hydrogen infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the permitting process, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and government agencies.

Additionally, the Permitting Specialist will:

  • Design an outreach plan for permitting within California.
  • Lead the permitting efforts to help understand the process.
  • Support EnergIIZE, HVIP, and other programs within CALSTART to understand permitting needs within California.
  • Manage the creation of an online permit portal.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Geography, Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, Political Science, or other related field.
  • 3+ Years of Experience working in a permitting role, preferably in a related industry.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to permitting processes.
  • Review and interpret regulations, zoning codes, and environmental impact assessments to ensure compliance during the permitting process.
  • Liaise with government agencies, stakeholders, and other relevant parties to gather information and address any inquiries or concerns related to the permitting process.
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and permitting processes.
  • Demonstrated experience using computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience managing timelines and deliverables.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex permitting challenges.
  • Experience scheduling and coordinating meetings with external stakeholders and other partners.
  • Ability to proofread or edit work for writing style, correct syntax and tenses, fact-checking, and grammatical errors.
  • Occasional travel throughout California may be required
  • Remote work is allowed. Local hire is preferred (Los Angeles/Pasadena) area

CALSTART includes the complete salary range amount $72,000-$92,640 of the job announced. We determine pay based on education, experience, internal equity, and any other factors relevant to the job. Pay for this role will typically be from $72,000-$78,880.
