Purpose and Scope

The Payroll team is responsible for processing recurring scheduled payrolls for all domestic company employees as well as special processing for executive compensation, bonuses, stock compensation, and other items as needed. In addition, the Payroll Professional II is responsible for completing SOX and other controls as well as internal and external reporting related to the payroll process. A successful member of the payroll team is focused on accuracy, continuous improvement of our processes, and elimination of manual inputs where possible. The Payroll Professional II must build a thorough understanding of all transactions being processed in order to verify and question both the inputs and the process.

The Payroll Professional II is also responsible for leading and participating in projects related to updates to payroll processing. Updates to our processes require cross functional collaboration with IT, Human Resources, and others to confirm the changes identified and include system testing for confirmation of the change identified.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise across the payroll processing team for proper processing and reporting protocols.
  • Ensure all assigned payrolls are completed timely and without error. This includes ensuring all inputs from Kronos and other interfaces have loaded properly. Complete and/or confirm all required updates to the employee record prior to opening the pay including: MySuccess replications, MySuccess notifications of data changes, or other changes or updates from Total Rewards or HR.
  • Determine if there are any issues in the payroll data before the pay is exited. This requires building an understanding of the differences in the pay groups and items specific to them (for example : executive payroll items, Union contract requirements, or differences for salary operatives). Investigate and resolve any issues found.
  • Finalize processing of the payroll by completing all required review steps including Gross-to-Net reconciliations, variance analysis files for management review (SOX Control), and other confirmations to ensure accuracy of the pay. Finalize posting of the payroll to SAP FI. Ensure that all payrolls have been posted, processed, and accounted for each accounting period.
  • Investigate employee pay questions, determine if corrections are needed, and provide appropriate documentation or analysis to support the response.
  • Lead activities related to special processing including Gainshares, Melt Bonus, APA, Annual Hourly Vacation Analysis, and Stock Vesting Activities. Complete assigned tasks for year end reporting and payroll adjustments required to issue complete W2 information.
  • Act as a lead in working with the Accounting team to ensure proper reporting of all payroll activity to the general ledger.
  • Lead and support initiatives to update the payroll system and processes needed due to changes to payroll regulations, changes in benefit options, or as a part of departmental continuous improvement. This requires interaction with our business partners in HR, IT, Total Rewards, and Accounting.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma with 7 years of payroll processing, accounting, or related experience; OR
  • Associate's degree in accounting or related field; with 4 years of payroll processing, accounting, or related experience; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field; with 2 years of payroll processing, accounting, or related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma with 9 years of payroll processing, accounting, or related experience; OR
  • Associate's degree in accounting or related field; with 6 years of payroll processing, accounting, or related experience; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field; with 4 years of payroll processing, accounting, or related experience

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • High level of organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work with large datasets
  • SAP Payroll, MySuccess, or similar payroll tool experience
  • Payroll processing & payroll tax knowledge, including executive compensation items such as stock options
