Boise State University is a rapidly-expanding R2 Research Institution. The Office of Sponsored Programs is a full-service department that helps campus manage sponsored programs from proposal to close out.

The Office of Sponsored Programs Pre-Award Department supports the Boise State research community in development and submission of over 600 proposals annually. The Pre-Award team works closely with faculty and staff across all campus units to a) ensure compliance with federal, sponsor and BSU regulations, b) develop strong budgets and c) confirm all required documents are uploaded and submitted by the deadline.

Job Summary/Basic Function:
The purpose of this position is to provide leadership and a high level of expertise in the grant proposal submission process at Boise State University.

Level Scope:
Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.

Essential Functions:

  • Interpret information in requests for applications/proposals and communicate critical information to principal investigators
  • Ensure transmittal form complete and all compliance notifications are identified.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date information regarding use of electronic grant administration portals
  • Identify and determine action items for compliance -related issues such as financial conflict of interest, export controls, human participants and animal subjects. Coordinate ad hoc meetings of faculty, director of the Office of Sponsored Programs, university legal counsel, internal audit and other units as needed to mitigate these issues.
  • Flag problematic clauses, errors in budget numbers, questionable contractual language, incorrect start and end dates, etc. for correction
  • Train and mentor other support staff in matters of research administration as needed
  • Assist in disseminating information regarding changes to research policy and procedures

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Comfortable with interpreting technical writing
  • Able to work from home
  • Comfortable with Google Suites, Adobe and government databases
  • Knowledge of federal agency grant programs
  • Able to create and review complex budgets
  • Previous experience in higher education
  • Previous experience in grant writing or sponsored programs
