Role Description Summary

Rehrig Pacific Company believes in being a responsible, sustainable solutions provider. The Operations Sustainability Specialist will develop, implement, continuously improve, and report on our strategic sustainability initiatives. In addition, this role will have the opportunity to educate, coach, develop the behaviors that will drive sustainability and circularity throughout the company. The Operations Sustainability Specialist will collaborate with external and internal partners to develop customized sustainability solutions.

Rehrig Pacific is proud to have achieved 2021 Bronze EcoVadis certification, employ a state-of-the-art sustainability software program, conduct CO2 footprint reporting, and publish an annual sustainability report. This role would be responsible for these resources - coordinating company initiatives and external partnerships to improve on each, as well as annual data collection and reporting. The scope of work will require extensive cross-functional collaboration and travel to each of the Rehrig Pacific Manufacturing and Services sites throughout the country.

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and ambassador on plastic manufacturing sustainability concepts, tools, and industry trends.

Customer Focus, Collaborates, Situational Adaptability
  • Gather qualitative and quantitative information relevant to sustainability metrics.
  • Partner with the Life Cycle Engineer to ensure data is provided in a consistent manner and supports circular economy projects.
  • Partner with sales team as needed to provide operational data relevant to customer reporting needs.
  • Partner with marketing to present sustainability in an accurate, engaging and inspiring manner.
  • Develop complete project plan and timeline, manage tasks accordingly, and ensure clear stakeholder communication.
Drives Results, Decision Quality
  • Refer to current baseline data, goals, and lessons learned to support the sustainability strategic plans.
  • Make data-driven and fact-based recommendations to improve in all three pillars of sustainability • people, planet, profits • towards our operational sustainability strategic plans.
  • Support New Product Development (NPD) to support the design of the most sustainable, circular products.
  • Lead the publication of the Annual Sustainability Report and all relevant data sources, points, and analysis.
  • Research relevant sustainability and circular economy developments that are relevant to this role and recommend suitable areas of opportunity to the EHS&S leadership.
General Responsibilities
  • Executes on annual strategic plans.
  • Works effectively with remote teams, exhibiting kindness, compassion, and empathy while maintaining momentum, engagement, and innovation.
  • Provide sustainability support across all departments.
  • Maintains auditable documentation of data and key reporting metrics.
  • Maintains sustainability programs, partnerships, and consultative relationships.
  • Prepare and present accurate, data-driven reporting to key stakeholders and leadership on a regular basis.
  • Ensures sustainability-related work is captured in Leader Standard Work (LSW) and Rehrig Management System (RMS).
Qualifications
  • B.S. Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing or plastics industry, sustainability-related preferred.
  • Strong data analysis, organization, and business acumen required.
  • Excellent communicator (verbal & written) and an ability to summarize and communicate information clearly.
  • Well versed in report writing.
  • Capable of leveraging data to drive decisions and project focus.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver high quality results.
  • Candidate must be results oriented with the ability to excel in a self-initiated environment.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • Detail oriented in a sustainability, systems-thinking approach.
  • Ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Highly organized and able to multitask.
  • Resilience, tenacity, & diplomacy.
  • Ability to effectively work as a part of a team.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications (especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook), JD Edwards, and other software-as-a-service cloud-type applications.
  • Moderate travel is required.
