The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing is seeking a Nurse Manager to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Department Director.

Position Specific Summary

Provide managerial and clinical leadership for Children's Hospital Procedural Suite. Ensures that all staff provide safe clinical care and have the education, methods and resources to accomplish their performance objectives.
Positions in this job family usually have limited involvement in direct patient care and focus their efforts in planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and improving health care operations, clinical education programs and research programs of clinical and health service departments.

Percent of Time: 100%

Schedule: 40 hours per week, Days,

Location: Stead Family Children's Hospital (SFCH)

Rotations: Holiday and weekend coverage

Salary: $61,862 per year to commensurate

Education or Equivalency Required:
  • Master's Degree in Nursing or related field. If Master's Degree is in related field, Baccalaureate in Nursing is required
  • If qualified applicant does not have Master's Degree in Nursing, the applicant will need to complete an advanced degree in nursing, health care administration, or business administration within five years of beginning this position
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa or ability to obtain an Iowa license by date of hire is required
Required Qualifications:
  • Recent experience in clinical practice
  • Considerable (3-5 years) experience and demonstrated skill in leadership/management roles
  • Experience with unit operations including human resources, financial management, quality management, and compliance with regulatory environment with various federal and state agencies and the Joint Commission
  • Demonstrated experience with patient/family satisfaction initiatives and staff engagement
  • Demonstrated job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate with physicians, staff, patients, families, outside agencies/vendors, and the community
  • Must be proficient in computer software applications
  • Experience modeling service excellence principles/standards

Desired Qualifications:
  • At least two years' experience pediatric outpatient procedural care (pre, procedure, and post)
  • Experience working in large academic medical center
  • Experience working with pediatric medical/surgical subspecialties (e.g., Dentistry; GI; Nephrology; Oncology; peds surgery; Urology); Pediatric Anesthesia and Sedation Services
  • Experience with post procedure recovery standards
  • Experience working in union environment
  • Certification in Procedural or Recovery care through a nationally recognized professional nursing certification body. If not currently certified, must seek certification in a role or specialty as soon as eligible to sit for the exam
  • Radioloty nursing including constrast reactions
