Overview

The Princeton University Art Museum is seeking a Museum Store Supervisor to support the Manager of Wholesale and Retail Operations in leading the sales associates in the Store's daily operations by monitoring employee activity, coordinating the receiving of merchandise, assisting customers and solving problems at a day-to-day level.The ideal candidate is a confident team leader who can oversee the staff, delegate responsibilities, as well as follow task procedures. This self-starter will be dedicated to overseeing the daily in-store duties of opening and closing, monitoring cleaning, staff training, coaching and schedules, cash reconciliation, inventory management, visual merchandising and restocking, and working with other Art Museum Departments as needed. Ideally, the candidate will have recent retail sales experience, a knowledge of art, art history and culture, familiarity with handcrafted art, and would thrive in a creative learning, mission driven environment. This is an 80% time, benefits eligible, 2-year term position with the possibility of extension.About the Museum: With a collecting history that extends back to 1755, the Princeton University Art Museum is one of the leading university art museums in the country, with collections that have grown to include more than 112,000 works of art ranging from ancient to contemporary art and spanning the globe. Responsibilities

Responsibilities:Store Sales

    Maintains/exceeds daily and weekly sales goals as set by Manager and motivates staff to achieve targetsRemains knowledgeable about and answers questions related to merchandise, sales, promotions/special events, store policies, as well as the Museum and Princeton University
Store Staff
    Ensures cohesive and productive workflow with customer service as priorityTrains new staff on all operational procedures and ensures ongoing adherence to University guidelinesResponsible for staff scheduling and drafting monthly shift schedules for Manager, ensuring proper coverage during busier times
Store Operations
    Maintains Store’s overall appearance Leads staff in executing visual merchandising plans and reorganizes displays as neededOversees front and back of house supply levels


Qualifications

Qualifications:
    Minimum of high school diploma or GEDMinimum of 1 year solid retail experience
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
    Demonstrable experience in a retail store or similar service fieldFriendly, outgoing demeanor with a strong commitment to customer serviceHighly organized and detail orientedAbility to express oneself clearly and persuasively when making salesCalm, professional demeanor Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 20 poundsCompetency in retail management softwareExcellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays
Preferred Qualifications:
    Experience in inventory management within a point-of-sale systemSolid math skillsRetail display experience preferredInterest in and knowledge of museums, art history, visual culture.
