Overview

The Cataloging and Metadata Services department at Princeton University Library is hiring a new Metadata Operation Specialist to join the East Asian Library Team. This position provides accurate maintenance of the Chinese language collection. Reporting to the Team Leader of non-Roman Script Languages, the duties of this position include creation and revision of bibliographical records in OCLC and in the Alma system.Primary duties include: receiving and cataloging Chinese-language materials; cataloging and processing monographs and contributing to the maintenance of periodicals and standing orders; overviewing and processing of shelf-ready monographs received from the Chinese vendor; other special projects as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Create accurate bibliographic and name authority records for Chinese language materials.
  • Search the library catalog and other bibliographic utilities such as OCLC.
  • Perform complex copy cataloging and provide appropriate maintenance of Chinese language metadata.
  • Perform cataloging of print monographs and DVDs.
  • Provide complex copy cataloging of continuing resources in Chinese-language and prepare transfers to off site location.
  • Process rush requests for Chinese-language materials.


Qualifications

  • Five years of library (or equivalent academic) experience that demonstrates the ability to perform detailed analytical work with bibliographic description of datasets.
  • Working knowledge of cataloging standards and procedures (RDA, MARC 21, LCSH).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of library staff in written and oral form.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other members of the team.
  • Ability to manage time and projects effectively.
  • Facility with a variety of bibliographic databases.
  • Knowledge of the Chinese language is essential.
  • Fluency in written and oral English.
