Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Steel, a Fortune 100 Company and recently named Fortune's best workplace in Manufacturing and Production is seeking candidates for our internship program in our Auburn, NY location. The successful candidate will possess a basic knowledge of mechanical principles. Planned objectives are listed, but not limited to:

• Develop a thorough and comprehensive understanding of industrial safety
• Work alongside Nucor mechanics performing preventive and corrective maintenance
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the various power transmission systems throughout the Rolling mill & Melt shop
• Build basic millwright skills- hand tools, power tools, measuring, welding, etc.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Participation in a course of study in Mechanical Technology
• GPA of 3.0 or better in Mechanical Courses
• Written recommendation from advisor
• Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

• Time Management - Managing one's own time.
• Accountability - Displays responsibility in their own work habits and has ability to hold others accountable for desired results.
• Maintenance Systems and Techniques - Knowledge of servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment.
• Engineering and Technology - Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to work at hand.

Preferences:

• Second year student
• Completion of a safety course(s)
• Practical work experience
