Job Info

The Meta Connectivity team is developing new platforms for connectivity on the ground, in the air and in orbit, using a variety of technologies, including RF (Cellular & mmWave) and highly scalable and modular compute platforms. To make this a reality, we need to develop innovative mechanical systems for a variety of these technologies. We are seeking a creative Mechanical Engineer to join our Connectivity Team as we build the technical foundation upon which the world shares and connects. This is primarily a mechanical design engineering role; however, the ideal candidate would also have a keen ability to adapt/learn, willing and able to work collaboratively across fast-paced, multi-disciplinary teams (e.g., with electrical engineers, software engineers, material scientist, physicists, machinists, technicians, etc.). The ideal candidate would also have a solid grasp of ME fundamentals, and ability to work with analyst specialists to deepen their knowledge base. We are looking for someone who is comfortable taking their designs all the way through detailed design, drawing generation, parts procurement, and hands-on assembly, integration and test. We need someone who is well-versed in taking on medium to high level tasks, determine what low-level steps need to be taken, and work in a self-guided fashion toward achieving the desired outcome.

Develop mechanical hardware designs from initial concepts through early trades, sizing analyses, component selection, refinement of design details, hardware procurement, first-article inspection, assembly and integration, and performance/environment qualification testing.

Develop innovative thermal design solutions for managing heat loads around sensitive electronics components and perform thermal simulation and analysis using FEM and hand calculations. Set up, oversee, and run empirical testing, interpret and present results.

Develop component and assembly drawings and specifications, tolerances.

Design and implement complex mechanical assemblies meeting challenging performance criteria while being low-cost and manufacturable and deployable in volume.

Generate thorough design documentation, including design review slides, analysis reports, fabrication & assembly drawings, assembly and test procedures, etc.

Work closely with external partners and vendors.

Design performance characterization and environmental qualification test setups, including both hardware design and test procedures.

Experience in CAD design tools (SolidWorks) for parts, assemblies, drawing generation, GD&T, and configuration management. Familiarity with PDM document management system.

Experience using/evaluating FEA and CFD for structural and thermal analysis to help guide and evaluate product designs.

Knowledge of engineering practices and standards such as geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).

Exposure or hands-on experience in designing and shipping mid to high volume products.

Experience defining, propose and work with reliability/testing engineers in testing waterfalls, pass/fail criteria, test definition and root cause analysis.

Experience mentoring and developing junior mechanical engineers and work with external contractors.

Hands-on or exposure to a variety of manufacturing methods: injection molding, stamping, die casting, CNC machining, forging, etc.

Communication, interpersonal, and adaptability skills.

Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.

Experience in precision mechanisms & motion control, motors, bearings, flexures, position sensing.

Experience in electronics packaging, PCBA mechanical design, electro-mechanical integration & interconnects.

Experience with hardware assembly, integration and test, common mechanical & electronic lab equipment & measurement techniques.

Experience in environmental testing and qualification (thermal, vibration, vacuum systems, etc.).

Experience in volume production experience, DFM/DFA/DFT/DFX, cost budgeting and estimation.

Exposure to disciplines like mechatronics, robotics, industrial automation.

Experience providing oversight to the fabrication and participate in assembly, integration, and test.
