Description:

The position of a Food Process Scientist involves collaborating with various departments on the production floor to comprehend the operations of each production line and department within our processing plants. Extensive time will be spent understanding finished products, expected product quality, process flow, and equipment operation in each department, and their impact on the final product. The incumbent will apply their expertise in meat science to enhance the company's ability to produce high-quality meat products successfully. Reporting directly to the Director of Food Processing Technology, the role encompasses the following responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in departmental meetings and support efforts to enhance product efficiencies and yields.
  • Acquire knowledge of company policies, job-specific standard operating procedures (SOPs), training requirements, and safety protocols.
  • Develop an understanding of production areas and operational efficiencies.
  • Stay updated on yields, variances, calculation methods, problem areas, and corrective measures.
  • Ensure compliance with USDA and company Food Safety and QA policies and procedures.
  • Foster a skilled workforce through hands-on training methods.
  • Collaborate with FSQA to ensure the production of wholesome products meeting specifications.
  • Maintain proficiency in product specifications, equipment, employee qualifications, and tasks.
  • Cultivate collaborative relationships across all departments.
  • Conduct in-plant tests to enhance products and processes.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year university or college in animal science, meat science, food science, or poultry science.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in project management, with the capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, exhibiting a sense of urgency and good judgment.
  • Effective communication skills across diverse groups.
  • Internship experience in a meat or food processing company.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Aptitude for data collection and analysis.
Working Conditions:
  • Adaptability to varying work environments (Office/Production).
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment.
  • Work in colder temperatures and a fast-paced, wet, humid environment.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities and endurance for standing or walking for extended periods.
