Marketing Director, Dining Programs
The Department of Dining Programs is seeking a Marketing Director of Dining Programs (Communications & Marketing Manager) who will be responsible to promote the vision for the dining program from an innovative, cutting edge and world class experience. Lead and project-manage strategic initiatives. Continually assess goals, targets, certifications, and practices to stay abreast of current trends that will benefit the satisfaction, safety, health and well-being of the JHU community, and ensure JHU Dining remains a national leader in high quality customer services and sustainability programs.

As the program is in transition to a new Self-Op Dining operation, the Marketing Director will be responsible for building the marketing initiatives and platforms from the ground up. This is an incredible opportunity to develop the platforms and initiatives for the future.

The Marketing Director will be responsible for the design, gathering and assessment of customer feedback data. Monitor results and respond to findings to ensure continuous improvement in processes and programs as well as high levels of satisfaction for students, guests and the JHU community. They will also create, articulate, and obtain buy-in for JHU Dining's mission, vision, and strategy. Develop plans to materialize strategy and analyze program initiatives.

The Marketing Director for Dining will establish and maintain effective a positive communications strategy, including social media, website, news articles, and a range of other outlets with the objective of raising internal and external awareness of JHU Dining's efforts and related activities.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Marketing (40%)

  • Responsible for the development of all marketing materials related to dining
  • Build, support and maintain social media platforms for the Dining Program
  • Manage and support any external resources relating to marketing material development and ongoing support, i.e. website development, branding materials
  • Work with the AVP and Central Communications to build the Dining Brand
  • Work closely with the Director of Culinary Innovation on all Signage and operational presentation materials
  • Create the Annual special Events calendar for Campus wide events, such as Family Weekend and Convocation. Create and maintain the Dining location special events calendar that outlines special event programming for all dining locations
  • Develop and maintain a student feedback portal


Operational (20%)
  • Serve as the department point of contact for all meetings/inquiries about student engagement topics to coordinate, and enhance the program
  • Representing JHU Dining at relevant meetings, assist in strategic planning, and coordinating JHU Dining events
  • Stay abreast of trends and patterns with the industry and make recommendations for changes to the Dining program
  • Effectively collaborate with both the Student Affairs communications team and Central university communications to ensure alignment in all aspect of Dining communications
  • Manage marketing admin and any student interns related to marketing


Marketing Research/Data Collection (20%)
  • Focus groups, surveying, campus mapping, trend development, Gen Y research, competitive pricing analysis, etc
  • Special events, promotions, marketing collateral, media interaction, public relations, etc.
  • Interaction with clients, university department heads, student organizations, community groups, etc.


Strategic Planning/Innovation/Creativity (20%)
  • Development of new strategies and tactics for promoting existing or new locations, etc. to enhance sales and customer satisfaction
  • Development and execution of annual meal plan campaigns, including oral and written presentations, to various target groups (e.g.; on-campus residents, commuters, faculty & staff, etc.)


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
  • Bachelor's Degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience in Higher Ed food service and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Advanced degree may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula*
  • Experience with PC-based Microsoft Word products (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills in order to build solid working relationships internally and externally


* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write clear, concise copy for digital and print materials; strong editing and proofreading skills
  • Solid understanding of principles of design; demonstrated experience working within established brand standards
  • Extensive knowledge of and fluency within social media platforms
  • Experience using content management systems (e.g. WordPress) and email marketing platforms; familiarity with HTML/CSS
  • Understanding of measurement tools (e.g. Google Analytics) and how to translate data insights into action
  • Superior attention to detail; ability to think creatively, strategically, and analytically
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, cultural responsiveness, and the ability to work collaboratively with multiple groups, including students, staff, and administrators
  • Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving, time management, and project management skills

Starting Salary Range: $69,830 - $95,960 annually (commensurate with experience)

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
