Position Summary

Manages the needs of the Amory Purchasing Departments insuring that all goods and services are purchased in accordance with ITT Corporate Purchasing Policies and all applicable local procedures while driving cost savings and product improvements.
Essential Responsibilities

Plans, directs and controls the purchase of all goods and services required to manufacture company products in accordance with ITT Corporate Purchasing Policies and all local procedures.

Establishes goals and objectives for all buying personnel and monitors their performance in achieving these objectives. Goals include but are not limited to, quality, delivery, cost reductions, and the number of suppliers.

Conceives plans and implements systems to improve overall productivity and throughput.

Forecasts and controls dollar value of material receipts and purchase price variance on a monthly basis.

Determines the need for new suppliers and plans for the development of same.

Insures that all purchasing transactions are conducted in a professional manner consistent with ITT's standard of ethics.

Insures that the \"Total Cost\" concept is the overriding factor in determining sources of supply.

Continually analyzes on-going workload and flow.

Negotiates or assists in negotiating purchase prices for all major commodities purchased.

Establishes standard costs for all stock parts required by the unit.

Maintains market awareness with regards to new products, price and lead-time trends, etc. through supplier visitations, consultations, and trade journals.

Maintains listing of company owned assets located at our suppliers operations. Listing is to be updated a minimum of once per year.

Develops a standard lead-time listing for all major commodities purchased. Listing is to be updated quarterly.
Position Requirements

Directly supervises two to four employees in the purchasing department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must possess general understanding of the entire procurement cycle including accounting, receiving inspection, and production/inventory control.

Must possess strong negotiating skills.

Emphasis on appropriate commodities with general knowledge of computerized purchasing systems, planning and forecasting, negotiating techniques, etc.
