Opportunity

Supervises and leads the Maintenance department Supervisors and Team Leaders for the Hattiesburg Campus, including both facilities, all facility activities, operation details, and Tool Crib accountability.  Ensures the team operates with a true customer support focus and a sense of urgency and accuracy in all assignments.  Responsible for tactical and strategic planning/execution of day-to-day Maintenance Department activities and maintenance projects.  Coordinates with Engineering, Operations, Supporting Departments to plan and complete new equipment installations and engineering projects in a timely, effective, and efficient manner.  Ensures that the SAP work order system is managed and maintained appropriately.  Monitors tool crib inventory levels and strives to maintain them at effective and targeted control levels in conjunction with planned business needs and in-line with Finance planning.  Responsible for negotiating and purchasing project and work order materials, equipment, and services from suppliers.  Ensures safety training requirements and procedures are met and effective for the facilities and all maintenance team members, along with reviewing, assessing, and executing talent development activity through training curriculums, job shadowing, and project-based assignments.  Uses collected data to identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, prepare strategic and expansion related Capital Plans and/or supporting documentation for larger scope projects.  Consistently review and execute the needed equipment replacement, retrofits, and/or upgrades in conjunction with supporting engineering leads.  Also lead the interaction, provide needed support, and manage all facility related changes, installation, and/or upkeep for the Hattiesburg Campus facilities. 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Supervises all maintenance team leaders/supervisors.  Responsible for the tool crib contents and accuracy, and monthly metrics/reporting.  Directly supervises the team leaders and supervisors responsible for all areas of maintenance, facilities, and participates and drives capital planning projects to meet updates to code, fire systems, security, plant expansions, and other needed facility activities.
  • Responsible to ensure tool cribs operates in an efficient, accurate, and ethical manner.  Ensure that the team operates according to Kohler Company procurement and purchasing directives.  Manage and monitor plant repairable spares and tooling program for plant cost savings.
  • Prioritize work and personnel assignments to tasks in a way that maximizes overall plant efficiency, equipment reliability, schedule needs, and associate productivity. Review repeat issues in which potential cost savings to the plant can be realized in terms of labor and repair parts.
  • Work with suppliers to move MRO spending toward contracted suppliers where appropriate.  Strive to manage all crib inventory to the lowest total cost of ownership value.
  • Ensure that associates have the needed tools, equipment and supplies required to perform their duties effectively and accurately.
  • Ensure daily supervisory duties related to Supervisors/Team Leaders responsibilities relating to payroll, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations are completed consistently and on-time where applicable.
  • Recognize support needs of team members, and work to identify, plan, and execute training opportunities to provide talent development and maintain onsite expertise on key equipment in the facilities.
  • Track project work orders, schedules, and resource allocations along with publishing progress on a regular basis and a final report on schedule compliance and cost when projects are completed.  Develop or improve feedback to customers regarding project priorities, schedules and timelines related to maintenance resources.
  • Research and develop required tools and training to facilitate predictive maintenance such as vibration analysis, ultrasonic monitoring and MTBF reports to evaluate equipment retrofits and TPM restoration events.
  • Ensure that the SAP work order system is being used and maintained appropriately to plan, track and document work done in the facility.  Generate reports to review and maintain effective and accurate tracking of maintenance labor tracking, equipment repairs, and repair components required.
  • Initiate planning and scheduling with engineering and operations for resource and material needs for all work orders, ensuring timely correction of potential machine issues/breakdowns and planned work order dates.  Arrange expedited shipping if required to minimize the production impact of equipment downtime.
  • Participate in Operation Certification, Capital Planning and project management with engineering, quality and production personnel.  Develop PM procedures and spares lists for capital projects.  Ensure that these items are implemented in SAP.
  • Work with Engineering, Quality, and Operations to find ways to improve equipment reliability to meet part quality and production requirements.
  • Work with Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations to complete new stock item adds. Work with engineering to use up existing materials that will become obsolete with equipment or process changes and generate obsolete material write off list as required due to materials that cannot be used up.
  • Drive Talent development and engagement through effective training as required by individual, also including tradeshow presence, promoting advancement opportunities through setting high expectations of current job roles and moving into the next job role functions as applicable.
  • Manage all external Contacts in regard to Facility security, fire alarm systems, local fire department contacts, etc.. to effectively manage the facility related items.
  • Required to build and manage the month-to-month and annual operational budget with finance to meet business needs and targets.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in a technical field, business, and business management.
  • 5+ years demonstrated Experience leading technical resources, teams, and experience with facility related items in an industrial environment.
  • Experience in maintenance metrics systems and OEE measurements and effectiveness.
  • Recognize the equipment life cycle management in the business relationship with Engineering, Maintenance and Production having equal influence on equipment reliability.
  • Effective coaching, facilitation, presentation, and team building skills.
  • Exhibit ability to build detailed project plans, including time, resource requirements, budget and deliverables.  Demonstrate assistance in capture/creation of a project scope, achievement of original project milestones and timeframes, and leadership of projects.
  • Embrace continuous improvement and apply best in class practices.  Display adaptability and flexibility to change, seek resources to support change and apply KOS principles.  Share the learning with peers and cross functional associates.

Relationships and Contacts

Supervisory Relationships:

  • Reports to Director - Operations, Hattiesburg Campus
  • Supervises Maintenance Supervisors and Team leaders for both facilities.

Organization Relationships:

  • Frequent contact with Hattiesburg Operational Leaders to explain short- and long-term projects in detail.
  • Frequent contact with Operations and Quality to solve daily manufacturing problems.
  • Frequent contact with the Hattiesburg Leadership team.
  • Occasional contact with VP-Operations, to discuss short term and long-term projects at higher level scope.
  • Occasional contact with Corporate Legal and Purchasing Groups for procurement of capital equipment, purchasing processes, Tier I vendors, reporting needs, Environmental groups, and sustainability projects.

External Business Relationships:

  • Frequent contact with machine tool builders and other equipment suppliers to discuss projects and follow up on warranty issues.
  • Occasional contact with suppliers to verify their manufacturing process produces raw material and finished component's compatible with the Engine Division's processes and equipment.

Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or Industrial/Manufacturing Technology or an associate degree in an industrial vocational discipline with adequate demonstrated work experience.
  • Proficient in use of all common computer Microsoft Office software applications including Outlook, Access and MS Project.  SAP experience is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with SAP/Work Brain preferred.
