Participates in hiring and training as well as evaluates custodial staff and supervisors. Performs inspections in all areas on a scheduled basis and facilitates the necessary corrective action. Establishes and maintains the highest achievable custodial cleaning program commensurate with the resources made available.Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Oversees daily operation of custodial cleaning operations.

  • Responsible for staffing and management of personnel and for scheduling of operations.

  • Counsels with supervisors and building leads to discuss problem areas and identify means of improvements.

  • Participates with other members of the management team and University partners in planning and the design of new programs, projects, floor care, etc. and ensures expectations are met.

  • Performs inspections, and coordinates with the necessary departments to meet the expectations and timelines of the customer.

  • Supervises and helps the control of budgets for all units under this responsibility. Included are monthly projections.

  • Ensures that outside contractors are properly verified and supervised.

  • Keeps current on techniques and cleaning methods to ensure cleanliness and hygiene of campus interiors.

  • Pursues training and development opportunities. Continuously strives to build knowledge and skills.

  • Visits with faculty, staff, and students who may be experiencing a cleaning concern and facilitate correct action

  • Establishes long and short range goals for each of the activities managed.

  • Oversees other special projects as directed by management.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Is subject to recall after hours in the event of campus emergencies, disasters, or other special needs as directed by management.

  • Works as an essential employee as designated in the Facilities & Campus Services' Severe Weather Policy

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • BS/BA degree plus three years of experience in custodial operations and supervision, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Working knowledge of custodial practices, supplies, and equipment related to campus facilities.

  • Ability to supervise and direct custodial supervisors and other personnel daily.

  • Knowledge of related safety and sanitation standards for Custodians. Ensures compliance with OSHA/ ADA.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language sufficient to perform the duties of the position.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in computer use including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and other relevant software.

  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including nights and weekends and holidays.

  • Ability to operate and drive golf cart and other vehicles.

  • Ability to meet the requirements of the University's automobile insurance.

  • Ability to adapt quickly and accept change.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to do all of the following frequently: Climbing, stooping, kneeling, standing, lifting up to 25 pounds (occasionally up to 50 pounds), pushing, pulling, and grasping. Walking either within your respective areas or between areas on campus. Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions including hazards. Close visual acuity. Subject to handling cleaning chemicals.

Accountabilities:

  • Works under minimal supervision.

  • Supervises staff in assigned area of responsibility.

  • Recommends personnel actions, including hiring and disciplinary actions.
