Martin Marietta is currently looking for a District Maintenance Manager to provide leadership to maintain the Company's capital assets including the preventative maintenance and repair of all automobile, on and off-road trucks, heavy equipment, wash plants and crushing equipment and asphalt plants (collectively "Equipment"). This position will provide supervision of the procurement process and related controls to support the maintenance of the Equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for creating and leading department goals that support Company and Divisional goals and expectations.
  • Provide leadership and management of the maintenance facility, its personnel and assets.
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term preventative maintenance plans/programs for the District's Equipment.
  • Work to ensure strong integration of the maintenance functions with operations and its leadership.
  • Continually assess the Equipment requirements and available Equipment solutions to find opportunities to improve efficiencies and reduce cost.
  • Work with operations leadership to ensure Equipment needs are being reasonably met while meeting budgetary and strategic goals.
  • In cooperation with operations leadership, determine appropriate schedules for projects and repairs.
  • Provide sound financial management of the maintenance business unit.
  • Mange the P&L of the maintenance facility within budgetary guidelines.
  • Define appropriate staffing levels and shifts for different areas and seasons, managing towards a budget.
  • Provide capital planning recommendation for capitalized repairs and assist in the overall Equipment selection/capital planning process.
  • Remain current on new technologies that may assist the District achieve its strategic, operational and budgetary goals.
  • Where required, either individually or as part of the management teams, direct projects (e.g. site repairs/construction, preventive maintenance, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring completion within established time frames, project design, and budget.
  • Effectively communicates and drives organizational change.
  • Performs all activities in accordance with the Company's Mission, Vision and Values, and in compliance with the Company's policies, procedures and Code of Ethical Business Conduct.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Competencies:
  • Extensive mechanical knowledge of heavy construction equipment.
  • Familiarity with development and managing preventative maintenance programs.
  • Capital planning and management.
  • Ability to develop, manage and report fiscal performance.
  • Ability to set goals and objectives for maintenance team and coach employees to meet these objectives.
Supervisory Responsibility:

This position will have multiple direct (Lead Shop Mechanic and Procurement Manager) and related subordinates.

Work Environment:

This job operates 75% of the time in the maintenance facility and 25% at various District production sites. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. This position regularly requires long hours and weekend work.

Travel:

Travel will be frequent within the District and occasionally to other facilities within the company or to vendors in-state and out of state.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelors in mechanical or engineering field or equivalent, documented experience.
  • 10+ years of work experience in the aggregate and asphalt industry with direct experience in managing the maintenance of construction equipment.
  • Minimum 5 years of management experience with P&L responsibility.
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to manage, implement and adapt to change.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
  • Solid understanding of the heavy construction equipment (e.g., loaders, dozers, cranes, crushers, wash plants, etc.) used in aggregate production and asphalt manufacturing and all related equipment, electrical systems, burner operation, asphalt piping systems and mechanical systems
  • Previous experience operating and maintaining construction equipment, asphalt plants and related equipment
  • Previous experience developing and executing business plans and business strategies
  • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to motivate others
  • Ability to provide direct and actionable feedback
  • Proven success with developing people and teams
  • Ability to make decisions in a timely manner and sometimes under tight deadlines and pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including written and oral communications; relationship building as well as presentation skills to present project concepts and manage change at all levels within the company
  • Self-motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment
  • Highly skilled in use of Microsoft Project, Excel, Power Point and other productivity tools
