Veterinary Surgery and Emergency/ICU Technician - Split position

We are seeking an enthusiastic Veterinary Technician to join our growing team full time! We would like to find an LVT willing to work in our Surgery Department for 2 days a week and also our Emergency/Critical Care unit. This role is suited for the experienced licensed tech, but we are also excited to provide developmental training to someone that is just getting started and wants to move forward in their career at a hospital that provides an array of opportunities to develop a multitude of skills.

About Us:

VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center of Westbury is a 24-hour emergency/critical care and specialty referral practice in Westbury, New York. Just 28 miles or a short train ride to the amazing New York City and beaches all around. We offer 4 specialties including: Emergency & Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Oncology. We are Trauma Level 1 Certified, indicating our resources and ability to provide sophisticated emergent and critical patient care. We offer multiple advanced diagnostic and treatment modalities such as MRI, CT, and Fluoroscopy.

Technician Development Program:

VCA is committed to elevating the technicians within our hospitals and within the industry. The goal is to allow technicians and assistants to advance their medical, communication, and leadership skills. This program offers opportunity like tech school scholarships for assistants and paths to VTS for technicians. Whether you are a new grad or have 20+ years of experience, the Development Program will bring your career to the next level.

Summary of Job Description and Function:

  • Perform, create and assist in sedation and anesthesia protocols for various other procedures
  • Assist in patient procedures: preparation of patients, instruments, equipment
  • Creating anesthetic protocols, inducing, monitoring, maintaining, and recovering anesthetized animals daily
  • Plan, organize, and manage the daily flow of services requiring anesthesia
  • Assist with diagnostic testing including sample collection, catheter placement, venipuncture, radiography, submitting and running lab work
  • Maintenance of equipment used in Anesthesia and Surgery services
  • Ensure documentation is accurate and complete
  • Critical Care and nursing care while in our ICU unit
  • Triaging emergencies and Client relations such as discharges and patient updates
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Valid New York License for Veterinary Technician (LVT), or be license eligible.
  • Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary

  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

  • Knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and common diseases.

  • Ability to calculate drug doses and administer medications intravenously, subcutaneously, intramuscularly, and/or orally

  • Four ten-hour shifts or three 12hr shifts available

  • Paid on call availability
