POSITION SUMMARY: Provide appropriate special educational services to students with social-emotional disorders in a supported learning environment. Skyline Academy is a day treatment/ facility school program serving students ages 6 to 14-years old in grades 1st through 8th, at WellPower (formally known as the Mental Health Center of Denver). Skyline Academy provides year-round services, with specialty social-emotional programming during the Summer when the teachers are not present. The approach of the team is characterized by being strengths-based, family-centered, culturally proficient and community responsive. Skyline Academy students require individualized educational plans within an adaptive and trauma-informed environment due to their specific learning and social-emotional needs. This position be responsible for creating lesson plans for their classroom as well as teaching a specific subject to all grades. Skyline teachers are responsible for completing all documentation required for their student's IEPs and attendance records, and are responsible for the collective supervision and safety of the students in their classroom.

HOURS: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. This role will follow a traditional school calendar schedule.

Tuberculosis (TB) screening, testing - TB screening and testing, is required and must be completed prior to hire ( i.e., preplacement), and maintained during employment

Pay Range & Benefits:

  • $50,003 - $64,860 per year

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Assess children's educational, social, and life skills competencies
  • Develop individualized daily lesson plans based upon the child's IEP and the Denver Public School approved curriculum
  • Provide one-on-one or small group instruction
  • Keep records of student progress and other record keeping as assigned
  • Work with treatment team in developing treatment plans
  • Work with referring school district in developing and monitoring IEP's
  • Work with receiving school district in developing and implementing transition and discharge plans
  • Meet all requirements for teacher certification
  • Work with volunteers and interns as needed
  • Maintain a trauma informed environment of wellbeing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in special education or Education.
  • Current Colorado License in Special Education, Highly Qualified or Highly Qualified Eligible in Elementary Education.
  • Minimum one year of experience as Special Education Teacher.
  • Experience working within a facility school program or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • Experience in Affective Needs Classroom or Milieu preferred.

Additional Pre-Hire Requirements:
  • Letter of Recommendation.
  • Physical and TB
  • QMAP, CPR and First Aid Certifications within the first 60 days of employment.
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training within 6 months of employment
