Department Information

The Nutrition Metabolic Research Center is a newly developed resource designed for making and delivering precise diets to research participants to test relationships between diet and chronic diseases, with the goal of promoting the health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities. Users will include faculty in the Nutrition Unit of The Department of Applied Health Science, other faculty in the School of Public Health Bloomington (SPH-B), and beyond. Moreover, the Center will serve as a core facility within the research services network of the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute. The Center includes a commercial grade metabolic kitchen, a dining room, three clinical suites, and an analytical laboratory.

Located on the flagship campus of the Indiana University system, SPH-B has more than 2,500 enrolled undergraduate and 380 graduate students, 200 faculty, and 95 staff in 5 departments (Applied Health Science, Environmental and Occupational Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Health & Wellness Design, and Kinesiology). We are in a period of profound growth, as we have hired more than 30 new tenure-track faculty in the last 3 years. Job Summary

  • Oversees management of laboratory including training of personnel in various techniques and analysis.
  • Conducts large-scale surveys, research projects, and complex experiments.
  • Ensures that lab safety policies and procedures are observed and maintains safety records.
  • Oversees the set-up and maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Assists in preparation of completed research reports or analyses on each project phase.
  • Maintains inventory and orders supplies as necessary; oversees the disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Maintains fiscal accountability of the program, including grant proposal development, and approves all expenditures for the laboratory.

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field

  • 2 years of related research experience

Working Conditions / Demands

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
