International Regulatory ExpertPosition Summary

Primary Purpose:

  • The International Regulatory Expert is responsible for being the subject matter professional in international regulatory compliance. The position requires significant self-direction and will work cross-functionally with team members on current and emerging regulations, in addition to new product launches refreshes. Successful candidate must understand food, food contact, and novelty items regulations (non-food safety reviews) with the ability to execute labeling and regulatory functions.


Responsibilities include:
  • Be the liaison for Regulatory Specialists and internal/external legal counsel
  • Provide guidance and training primarily to the regulatory specialists and cross-functional stakeholders across the organization
  • Proactively engage in and stay educated in emerging trends, future regulations as they are being defined and compliance to all regulations that are applicable
  • Monitor regulatory developments internally and externally and advise key cross-functional stakeholders on business impact. Drive strategy on future planning to ensure continued regulatory compliance with minimal unexpected impact on business
  • Work cross-functionally as the regulatory resource on product innovations, renovations, graphics updates, and other new projects, as assigned
  • Approve raw material and finished goods specifications
  • Ensure and approve compliant product labeling and product claims substantiation
  • Oversee and evaluate new ingredients for compliance with regulations and to achieve sourcing certifications such as: Organic, Non-GMO or Kosher etc.
  • Submit and maintain export documentation
  • Advise cross-functional colleagues in marketing, research & innovation, corporate quality, etc. on regulatory interpretation and developments to ensure development of compliant products
  • Lead the evaluation and disposition recommendation of food regulatory risks


Position Requirements:

A Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Technology, Chemistry, the Sciences or Engineering is required for this position. A minimum of 7 years of experience in the food and/or pharmaceutical industry is required.

Candidate Minimum Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of international food law and regulations and comfort with regulatory interpretation, EU, Mexico, Canada, China preferred
  • Basic understanding of quality requirements during new product development stages
  • Ability to handle complexity, multiple projects and requests, and short timelines
  • Strong drive for results and ability to bring projects to completion
  • Good judgment, decisiveness, and interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented, accurate and excellent record keeping skills
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and problem solving
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical ability, leadership
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Significant experience working cross-functionally in a regulatory or labeling environment
  • Computer software skills to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • HACCP certification required. FSMA PCQI and GFSI (ISO, BRC or SQF) certification preferred
