The Department of Crop Sciences (https://cropsciences.illinois.edu) is a recognized global scientific leader in plant genetic improvement, crop production, plant protection, biometry, and environmental quality. Our research and teaching facilities include state-of-the-art laboratory space for plant and soil research, newly renovated classrooms with advanced learning technologies, and over 1,500 acres of research plots in our three research and education centers. The Department of Crop Sciences (CPSC) is searching for an outstanding candidate for a faculty teaching position (100% Teaching). Candidates will be considered at the instructor or lecturer level. We seek highly qualified applicants with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and the ability to teach at all levels. The Department of Crop Sciences is comprised of world-renowned faculty whose research, education and outreach programs use cutting edge science to address grand challenges in agriculture.

The ideal candidate would be capable of teaching a variety of foundational courses in horticulture and plant sciences (including, but not limited to, introductory horticulture such as introductory vegetable crops, plant propagation, specialty crop production such as tree fruit production, among other courses). Instruction will take place in both classroom and online learning environments. The Instructor/Lecturer will be responsible for lecture and hands-on laboratory sections associated with these classes. Mentoring, coordinating and supervising teaching assistants will be required. The ideal candidate will be committed to actively engaging students and to revising courses to maintain or increase their appeal. The position may include involvement in undergraduate student activities such as Horticulture Club and others as appropriate. Many teaching faculty also engage in administration, research, outreach, and service activities. This position is a full-time, 100% nine-month specialized faculty appointment (9-month service basis paid over 12 months), with the possibility of summer appointment. Salary is negotiable and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Minimum qualifications for this position include an M.S. degree in Horticulture, Crop Sciences, Plant Sciences, or a related discipline, and at least two semesters of English-language instructional experience at an institution of higher education. Preferred qualifications include a Ph.D. degree in Horticulture, Crop Sciences, Plant Sciences, or a related discipline, and at least six semesters of English-language instructional experience teaching at an institution of higher education. Preferred qualifications also include experience in developing and revising courses including lab courses; commitment to utilizing best practices for creating an interactive, student-centered learning environment; and experience with developing and instructing online courses. An appointee with a Master's Degree may hold the title Instructor; an appointee with an earned PhD may hold the title Lecturer.

The start date is negotiable, with strong preference for a start date on or before August 16, 2023
