Position Summary:
Appointment to the Instructor rank requires proof of advanced study in the field in which the instructor will teach and the promise of teaching effectiveness. For senior instructor’s evidence of outstanding teaching ability. Instructors have charge of instruction in assigned classes or laboratory sections under the general supervision of the departmental administrator. Instructors are expected to assist in the general work of the department and to make suggestions for innovations and improvements.

This faculty member is expected to teach courses in introductory mathematics and other courses as assigned, according to the needs of the department and as directed by the department chair. The faculty member will also serve as an advisor to undergraduate students as directed by the department chair. The faculty member is expected to attend faculty meetings, and to participate in committees at the department level and the college or university level.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s or MAT degree in Mathematics or a related field
• Experience teaching mathematics
• Experience working independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:
Education:

• PhD in Mathematics or related field

Experience:

• Working with technology in an educational setting
• Teaching introductory and developmental mathematics courses
• Teaching mathematics to students with learning differences
• Teaching mathematics in an Emporium-style environment or ability to teach mathematics or statistics courses at the 100-400-level
• Teaching courses online

Knowledge of:

• University of Idaho’s Department of Mathematics and Statistical Science Program
• The Polya Approach
