Role and Responsibilities

As an Academic Instructor with us, you will be teaching in a classroom environment to provide diverse students with adult basic education, English language development, special education, and basic subjects including reading, mathematics, and language arts. This role will require you to:

  • Teach career planning, social adjustment, and general life skills courses.
  • Instruct conversational English, as well as local ideas and customs to students with limited English proficiency.
  • Maintain records including testing, daily inmate/detainee work, and attendance. 
  • Evaluate and ensure inmate/detainee academic progress. 
  • Provide individual tutoring.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Two (2) years of relevant teaching experience preferred.
  • Valid teaching certificate from the state Department of Education or comparable authority required.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently: lift or carry up to 10 lbs.; bend, stoop, reach above shoulder level, walk, or stand.
  • Occasionally: lift or carry up to 20 lbs.; push or pull up to 40 lbs.; sit.
