ProPath, a member of the Sonic Healthcare USA family, seeks an exceptional Immunohistotechnician to join our thriving practice.  The selected individual will become a part of a 50+ physician group and independent laboratory. ProPath is a nationally recognized practice founded in 1966 and based in Dallas and facilities in Houston, Atlanta and Massachusetts.  We have over 50 physicians and PhD’s on the team. Our over 500 team members are based in 11 different states with physical facilities in three.

Days: Monday - Friday

Time: 10:00 AM - 6:30 PM 
Principle Duties:

Our Immunohistotechnicians are responsible for the daily operation of the Immunohistochemistry Laboratory, including slide preparation, staining, antibody titer preparation, equipment maintenance, supply and reagent inventory maintenance, and record retention.  Below are some of the duties and responsibilities; however, it is not an exhaustive list.

  • Preparation of slides for staining, including cutting paraffin sections (with particular attention to preservation of tissue); peripheral smears and frozen sections using patient and control material.
  • Accurate performance of all aspects of Immunohistochemistry (IHC), In Situ Hybridization and Immunofluorescent staining, including antibody titrations, preparation of retrieval reagents, actual stain procedure and QC documenting of run completion with labeling, packaging and delivery of finished product within departmental TAT standards.
  • Performance of quality control, research and development, and troubleshooting techniques or other procedures as directed by the supervisor, Medical Director or other Pathologist.
  • Preparation and maintenance of reagents and supplies necessary for all staining procedures.  Ensure that all necessary data is accurately entered into the appropriate patient record, quality control and/or quality assurance system. Assisting in other department activities as need arises and time permits such as general histology services.
  • Maintenance of adequate control material needed for the immunohistochemistry department procedures, including immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and cytochemistry.
  • Maintenance of equipment used in the Immunohistochemistry staining procedure.
  • Complying with all safety, HIPAA and company policies.
  • Proper handling of bio-hazardous and or chemical hazardous material.
  • Completion of special projects and other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Ensure all correct clinical data/information is entered into the computer system (i.e., order entry, patient demographics and/or results).
EDUCATION AND KNOWLEDGE:

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and in-depth knowledge of basic histotechnique required. Two years college coursework or degree in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and/or Immunology preferred. Prefer ASCP (HT), ASCP (HTL) registry or ASCP(QIHC) certification or eligible.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of one year of laboratory experience in a hospital, private lab, or research setting with preferred experience in Immuno-based histology techniques. Experience gained in a formal histology training program will be allowed for one year of experience.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES:

Performs repetitive or routine duties working from written procedures with controls. Must have the ability to establish work priorities and to handle several tasks for maximum workstation efficiency. Operates and troubleshoots immunohistochemistry equipment and procedures.   Patient data is confidential and privileged information.
